Artist's Description

The picture looking down the River Thames towards London Bridge was taken from Tower Bridge, on the left you can see HMS Belfast a second world war warship that is now permanantly moored on the south bank and is a one of London’s visitor attractions.

This part of the River Thames was called the Pool of London because of the warehouse and docks on each side of the river where ships could unload, this was the furthest reaches of the river the large ships could reach. This is why the central span of Tower Bridge can be raised so that shipping could move in and out of the Pool of London.
