Sugar Loaf Rock
This shot was taken before the sun came up.. I went to check out the sunrise, but a storm had blown in and there was very little colour other than blue on the eastern facing coast.. so I headed over to the west coast and took some photos at Sugar Loaf Rock.. I’m very happy I did as I just love this shot!
These were the actual colours captured by the camera, I haven’t photoshoped the colours at all, I’ve just adjusted the white balance down somewhat in order to exaggerate the blue that was already there.. love this shot!
3 minute exposure @ f10, ISO100
ND400 + ND8 + ND4Grad

Great shot Paul, great subject and composition, love the rock brooding over you, love the colour (I have captured this colour naturally at dusk)
How do you get such little cloud movement at 3 mins.
I must live in the wind capital of the world!!
Paul Pichugin replied
Normally it is very windy in this area.. but it was quite a still morning in terms of wind, which was really rare!
Karen Cougan

A spectacular image in many respects, not least composition and colour. Is the vignetting added in post production? Magnificent!
Adam
Paul Pichugin replied
No, it was an intended consequence of having 3 filters stacked.. and then not correcting it in photoshop aftewards ”:-)
josiem
wow! amazing
Adam Maund
I think the vignetting adds to the shot’s impact and atmosphere, so it was a beneficial ‘laziness’...I really like the end result anyway! ;-)
Adam
Paul Pichugin replied
Lol, yeah I thought so too.. I like a bit of mood in my shots, I find them more captivating that way. :-)

Your coastal work is great, Paul, and this is one of your best. I noticed you stopped this one down to f10, and others of similar settings have been up at f4 and f8. Have you tried going down further, to say f22, and going even longer?
Paul Pichugin replied
Unfortunately I’ve got a fair bit of dust on my sensor so I can’t get any further than f10 at the moment.. I’d like to get my sensor cleaned.. and get a new 5dmkII soon too.. just depends on finances :-(
Peter Hill
Oh yeh, the ole dust problem – brings back memories of my 10D. I tend forget BDT (Before Dust Time) when using the 5D Mark II !!
Paul Pichugin replied
I’m aiming to get one with my tax return as money is fairly tight at the moment, having just moved right across the country. I’ll need to get some new filters by then too as mine have some small scuff marks on them.. looking forward to it!

Beautiful capture its interesting, your camera must allow you to set the kalvin of the white balance to get the exagerated blue straight from the camera. Congratulations on the well deserved home page feature
Paul Pichugin replied
Yes, I can set the white balance to what ever I want.. it’s a very handy feature for exagerating colour :-)
