I spotted this flower growing by the side of the road in the countryside. I do not know if it is a wild flower but to me it doesn’t really look like one. Perhaps someone could tell me what it is called and if it is a wild flower? To me it looks like some sort of poppy but I will change my title if I am told otherwise!

Thanks Di – I did think it looked like a poppy and it was large like one but it did seem to be growing wild! Glad that I don’t have to change my title!

It looks like a California poppy – it looks stunning against the black background
Oh thank you Shulie! I have heard the name California poppy – that isn’t a wild poppy is it? I have a feeling that it is a garden variety so must somehow have got into the countryside. I think you are right though and I appreciate your lovely comment!
