This is my interpretation of the 2001 novel by Yann Martel. There’s a film version due for release in November this year – I saw the trailer for that recently, and was inspired to have a go at creating an image based on my recollection of the book (which I read in 2002).

The original piece is over 5 foot long (163cm), and I used Staedtler markers and acrylic paint on sign paper. It was completed in one evening during the ‘First Thursdays’ art event on Karangahape Road, Auckland.
