This is the second piece in my new series of work, ‘Exoplanets’, based on the exploration of alien worlds.

Gliese 667 is a triple-star system in the constellation of Scorpius. Gliese 667 C is the smallest stellar component of this system, and is a red dwarf star- this means it gives off a red-hued glow (hence the colour of the painting). Gliese 667 Cc is the second planet that orbits this star, along the middle of what is known as the ‘habitable zone’. It was put forward in 2011, by researchers at the Carnegie Institution for Science/University of Göttingen, as “one of the best candidates yet found to harbor liquid water, and thus, potentially, support life on its surface.”

Original dimensions: Oil on canvas, 16 × 24″
