pastels on paper 130cms wide ish
I still have the original, though it is a popular piece. sometimes this makes no sense to me. It hangs above my bed. well not RIGHT above it, on the wall. you know what i mean. yeh.
i drew this whilst in hospital because my work ethic wouldn’t let me stop. more to it than that but anyhoo -
Colchis is the island where Jason and the Argonauts found the Golden Fleece, which seemed appropriate and more original than Atlantis even though there are no visible sheep, fleecy or not. The cold kiss part I added later to the title as it fits in with the rest of this story… the cold kiss of fate:
I originally started this piece as a prelude for a much larger work that I was commissioned to do. I found a cool book of Roman ruins (um I just like ruins, no real other reason. Nice symbol of a crumbling society and decadence. Decadence actually means decay, it just got hijacked and somehow turned around by communists saying it and us interpreting it. Weird.)
Anyway it was a sketch for the giant oil piece that I did for a client and now stands on its own. Cool huh?
