Self portrait 2008
Miserabelia I suppose…
“It is the old wound my love… it never healed.”
CHarcoal and chalk. 70×27cm
Background info I guess – I have chronic bipolar disorder and scans of my head showing how a third of it doesn’t work at all, and I am an alcoholic and have not had a drink since ’98.
I began to draw this piece that year. I finished it tonight (April 2006).
So it is a self-portrait from the late 90’s, just before I quit drinking. At this point I had very little left, really. No. I mean, REALLY. I was doing a hell of a lot of weights using an ironing board for a bench.
I wrote this song at exactly this point in my life.
DARKLING
just click and it will play… 1.3meg i think.

Welcome back Paul, I’m listening to the song as I type this and viewing your latest offering. It’s such a shame that such talent, gifting a sensitivity has a “price” that many shall not comprehend. Trust you’re doing Ok, mate. Regards for the now. Thx for the sharing …

Amazing that a person can look so healthy on the outside and be so sick on the inside. From one alcoholic and head case to another. I hear ya!

You are so very talented Paul. Everyone has a dark side and struggle in life. You’re a great artist. Love the warm and strong guitar – music. Your voice makes me think of John Cale… Keep on the good work !

Your work is exceptional you have quite a way with pastels and with words. I love the way you paint with your voice and your music. Your dark imagery is very captivating.
Carmen Cilliers
Paul… the song is beautiful. Dark (of course). I think you and Nick Cave might get on ok. I tried to hit “buy” but got a message saying my computer didnt support this activity (blah blah) but I am going to try buy a copy ove the next few days. Here’s to your Daimon… let it fly high!

Paul, would you please explain to me how you got your song “Darkling” to play from only the song title. I’ve tried several times to do this from my own site and am only able to post the site info.
pauldrobertson replied
yeh no problemo my friend. here is what the code looks like – DARKLING
all you have to do is put quotes around the word, then a colon. paste in the full url immediately after that, without a space.
it’s a little tricky… but it works on images too, though i can’t remember right now how to add THEM.
