Starsign Slave

Starsign Slave

Ink drawing on paper.
For the last 25 years Rita’s daily star sign has read: Capricorn, today you will be as bored and disillusioned as you were yesterday.

This is a true story: There was once a woman who lived her life by the daily newspaper starsign she had delivered to her house everyday. She was fanatical about it. If the starsign said bad things will happen that day she would not even leave the house. On one of these particular days when she felt stuck inside she decided to clean out her attic. Whilst doing this she discovered her original birth certificate. It indicated that she was actually born on an entirely different day and month therefore she was a completely different starsign!!! Dear oh dear…

I based this character on her.

Beautiful drawing Paul. Poor dear does look so distraught, & the sun & moon look as if they are taking pity of her. Such a great, but sad, story. Love all the details in the newspaper, absolutely delightful

Love the inspiration for this one, sometimes a picture paints a thousand words, other times a thousand words paint the picture… :D

perfection… as if the drawing doesn’t tell enough, you go and add words that make my heart melt in a distressed, perplexed puddle all over the rug.

Love that story! Though at the same time it’s really sad. I’m not much into horoscopes; don’t like the idea of my fate already decided for me. I’ve had one that came true; but atleast that was a good one. The rest weren’t really significant; either they were too general or didn’t come true.

Rita may not have been a capricorn, but that horoscope seems to have been her life…

  • Paul Compton replied

Yes, very true. I think star signs are so general that of course some of the things they predict are going to come true. I don’t think people should base their lives and relationships on starsigns either – that becomes inhibiting. Having said this I did love drawing starsign pictures when I was about 9 nine years old so I can understand their attraction. Hope you are recovering after your fantastic efforts on Drawing Day Mui-Ling. As aways thank you immensely for commenting and for your kindness.

Everyone is searching for the label to stick on the next person they meet – or themselves…tedious. Love the observation.

I have the perfect retort for the next person who goes on endlessly about star signs and planets rising and cusps and all.

“Did you know there are rings around Uranus?” and walk away :)

  • Paul Compton replied

LOL!!! Oh, Lisadee I am going to use that response most definitely. Thank you for making me laugh and for the wonderful comments. Best wishes from me.
