Another little gem
Carol & Kev Ha...
Paul, this would have to be “Violet Cynthia Reed, 1908-1976”, the likeness you have created is so perfect, how I can see her all alone in her childhood home, “Mt. Pleasant”, a magnificent mansion high on a hill, and right here in Tassie…
I have read her book, “Daddy Sowed a Wind” several times, such an absorbing read, as it tells so much of her Tasmanian upbringing. Also read “A Bride for St. Thomas”, based on her experiences while training to be a nurse at St. Thomas’s Hospital in London. Oh she lived such a full life Paul, yet she had more than her fair share of heartache and tragedy. So truly sad such a beautiful person had to end her own life.
Thank you so much for sharing this Paul….you have such a truly unique talent….a talent to be treasured Paul….xxx

Julie Miles
This is great! It sort of reminds me of me when I was little and supposed to be asleep, with a flashlight and book under the covers….
Paul Compton replied
Hee hee, I know that magical feeling so well Julie. Thank you, I’m so glad you like this : )

Beautiful drawing, makes me think of the charachter, Liesel in ‘The Book Thief”, escaping to another time, i was a reader under the bedcovers too : )
BLYTHART
I was convinced that I’d already commented on this. I just spotted it again today when I was reading the interview you did of Pinkyjain. I would be really pleased with myself if I could produce an image like this and I hope you are pleased with this also Paul. I’ve liked your work since the first day I saw it.
Paul Compton replied
Thank you so much Dave. Your work is wonderful and has a unique style that is very specific to you – most artists work a lifetime to achieve something like this so you should be very proud of your body of work. All the best Dave, thank you : )

I like your images. In this, I like how Cynthia is wearing her gloves, socks and shoes when in a relaxed reading state. I guess it says something about her character, or the temperature.

I was looking through the comments and thought that no-one had cottoned onto the ‘book worm’ – but one person did :o) Love her little ‘self assured smile’ as if to say I am enjoying this and I am ‘clever enough to read it’. Reading by candlelight :o) Is the object beside her candle – her bookmark ?
I love the varying scale of her head to her body to her feet – which concentrates the viewers eyes on her big eyes and face. Very clever, subtle and cool.
Paul Compton replied 25 days ago
Yes – it is her bookmark. You’re so thorough in your picture analysis, really makes me happy to read such wonderous comments. I can’t thank you enough. Best wishes to you : )

Your artwork is like a pin sharp photo. I compare the detail of a photo to the detail of the artist. Anyone can draw – but only a few have that thing called ‘talent’ to go with it. Anyone can take a photo but to create emotion or fun or be inspired by anothers work – then thats the next level which you have attained.
