Awwww, must be why he looks so sad. Wish i could wipe the tear away. Beautiful sketch Paul, such feelings your characters bring out. Makes me want to know more about him, & how he lost his arm & leg

  • Paul Compton replied

Thank you endlessly pinkyjain. Yeah, I don’t know much about this character. I was going to throw out this drawing but didn’t have the heart for him/her to come to nothing. Red Bubble is providing a second life for this sad character. x

He, or she, does indeed have potential. Glad you didn’t toss him (or her) away, will be great to see what comes about

And in all our characters there be a tiny bit of us or our experience – brilliant pathos paul ,) Hopefully this might make the next book?

  • Paul Compton replied

Thank you so much Robert, you sweet thing you. Maybe, we’ll see what happens ; )

  • BLYTHART

    BLYTHART

If you base a story on this chap, please let him win in the end .. he deserves to.

  • Paul Compton replied

I completely agree. Go the underdog! : )

hmmm i feel another inspiration coming on

    xx

  • Paul Compton replied

They both have hard, melancholic lives. I’m so glad you like this Nicole. It means a great deal to me. xo

  • Deborah Parkin

    Deborah Parkin

aww so sad, even the huge void around her shows the isolation she is feeling – something we all feel at times – another beautiful image Paul.

  • Paul Compton replied

This character is so displaced but, as you pointed out, I think she connects to something shared in us. Thank so very much for commenting Deborah.

  • PJ Ryan

    PJ Ryan

probably why i relate to them so much ~ xx

(and i say that in a matter-of-fact tone .. never in self indulgence and sadness)

  • Pascale Baud

    Pascale Baud

so sad… but your “personnage” – sorry I don’t remimber how in English… maybe “character” ? – I try to write without translator !!! :)) – gives us – me of course – to follow his story… Your drawing is very “attachant”...

  • Paul Compton replied

Thank you pbworks : ) I think I get what you mean. I don’t know much about this character but I still feel a lot of sympathy for it. There’s definitely a story going on but I don’t know what it is. Feel free to interpret it however you wish : )))))

  • Pascale Baud

    Pascale Baud

LOL… if I try to interpret it with my french brain to write in English directly… It will be hilarious… All inversions, errors of words will be there ! :)...

Poor dear nothing, she scares me !

  • Paul Compton replied

I see what you mean Steven. People with sharp hooks for hands must be villainous otherwise why wouldn’t they have lollipops or plush toys as replacement hands. x

there is a calming beauty in sadness and the feeling of being alone….. maybe that’s why everyone here has embraced this little sprite… we all see ourselves in her.. at one time or another…... thank you paul…..... you are a light in our world…............b

  • Paul Compton replied

I couldn’t agree more. I can’t thank you for the kindness you show me Butch. Thank you for being you. x

    purelydecorative

Damaged and imperfect, faceless too, and yet incredibly moving and human. You have a wonderful way of bringing sweetness out of sadness in your drawings. There’s no way you can throw this one away!
I suspect this character is highly intelligent and really wants to be loved…and will be in the future after a series of unexpected adventures and difficult challenges. (That hook could actually turn out to be very useful….)

  • Paul Compton replied

Wow! Thank you for that beautiful comment purelydecorative. No, I could never throw this character away. I suspect the hook would come in handy – it certainly sets him/her apart from the rest. Thank you for the wonderful support : )

  • Mui-Ling Teh

    Mui-Ling Teh

Poor little one. It looks like she tried to put everything she had to make it into your book, but now she cries a big tear as she shakes her fragile body. Must it be that you share her with us because though she didn’t make the cut, you just couldn’t leave her in her state? It hard to turn away from someone who reflects a part of ourselves, even if we tried to. I should give her a good home in my favorites, hopefully that will make her feel better. I want to see a drawing of this character in a happy state!

  • Paul Compton replied

You are spot on as usual Mui-Ling. I’m glad she can finally be seen and appreciated here on RedBubble. Thank you for showing her such kindness. Both myself and Treasure appreciate your kindness immensely. If Treasure had a mouth she would be smiling right now.
