I can see the brilliant, yet finish on the cars, yet the structure’s colours and the purple-grey sky make everything look burnt and faded at the same time. The atmosphere’s almost tangible.
Wow Paul! Straight to the top of my favs! Love what you’ve created here. The lack of eye contact with the camera really adds to desolate feel. Great job on this one.
Wow, such a cool shot, really captures the vastness and desolation of Arizona. I’ve been subscribing to Arizona Highways for the last 10 years, have kept every copy. If you love Arizona I would definitely suggest a subscription
I have driven through Arizona and this sums it up perfectly!!! Your work is so signature!!!! There is no doubting which are your images…...... unique, distinctive and undeniably brilliant!
I know that feeling to become completely alone. Today I can see your naked soul, not body. I always feel the same when we used to live in California. No one is really interesting who you really are? Everyone busy with there own superficial life and even if they will understand you, they never live your experiences.
Stark and surreal, liquids for all the guzzling monsters of the roads in the little oasis that is Speedys…..protected by the man with attitude at the front….
Love it Paul – You have captured the colour, isolation and heat of the desert perfectly. Your stance and expression suggest you find it rather alien out there…though I have to say you suit the landscape with your tough look – I think it’s the folded arms and ‘don’t mess with me’ look. Great shot.
It is good to be the king. One could say ‘a rather empty and deserted kingdom’. But that is not true, because it is all happening in your mind. And your mind is filled up with all the experiences and knowledge of a lifetime. I do this too, now and then: fotographing myself in a scenery that means a lot to me. Aren’t we the stars of our own movie? We deserve to be immortalized. Great picture, Paul. And what a landscape …
Great shot Paul. I guess you realized like I did when we drove through Arizona… when you’re down 1/4 tank, you better damn well start thinking about gassing up!
hey paul….stunning image! took a similar shot in the namib desert with three friends and myself standing butt-naked. shot from behind (excuse the pun) – just sand, blue sky and the skin team. it’s on slide somewhere. have to find it and upload. anyway…love this one of yours!
Is this on the road to Vegas by chance???? I took a bit of a road trip when I was in high school and we drove through the desert ….WOW you totally brought me right back on that road :) I love this shot … The colors .. the depth and your pose…. (which way to go) .... Great work !!!
this piece is very crazy to me>>it reminds me of so much>>especially-withstanding much stero-tyoe-very powerful picture has lots of political symbolism to me!! GO GREEN- FORGET THE GAS STATION-ITS IN THE BACKGROUND!!!
There’s a story here. A man..perhaps frustrated..broken down car- waiting..tired of waiting..(look at those arms for crying out loud! Beefy!) Back to my saga. :-/ tired of waiting.. well, that’s what I get from it. ;) Could easily be a movie ad! Sleek and cool..
