Twin Engines
Shot this at one of my most favourite places – Tucson, Arizona…. the barren landscape just speaks volumes to me and the discarded fighter jet engines prove the perfect antithesis to the landscape.

brilliant! love the colours – almost surreal, like it was taken on a distant planet in another galaxy. And the number 48 makes it perfect!
wellman
looks like you’ve pulled a beautiful old canvas backdrop in behind those twin engines! Love the generous foreground also. Many other reasons to love this but I’ll save some for the plethora of fans to follow

if you half close your eyes and squint at the screen they could be….. wagons without the horses going out west…. or cannons about to fire….. either of which fits in with the imagery…. lovely stuff
and such gorgeous colour again… so muted and restrained…. well done
Zaldy Infante

Anette Tyler

Classic! Love the symmetry, this has a kind of retro ‘Thunderbirds’ kind of feel for me, very cool.
FlyAwayPeter
I like it a lot (but has engine #2 been cloned from engine #1? I have to ask because I’m a sucker for these tricks) :)
peterhoenderdos

andrew cowell

Sky eaters!, ....love the vast sky above, with these two little sky eaters hunkering down behind the fence, just waiting for the next chance to go zoooming around the heavens with their arse on fire,... lovely.!!
MarkoBeslac
I’m happy to see more of new work…...This is great….colors are beautiful…..IMHO compo will be much stronger without this ’’48’’ ....
Michael Douglass
Love the tones in this.
Bruce Watson
Another astutely judged composition and tonal palette Paul. (Gee, if those engines are the discards then the new ones must be pretty swish).
machandel
Looks like a SF film image- man just conquered a strange golden world. Impressive.
Robyn Lakeman

When I think of your photos I always think of gold light, but now you’ve turned the engines to gold too! Incredible shot in an incredible place. There’s nothing like the light and landscapes in Arizona and New Mexico.

Mel Brackstone
Had to come back for another look. You really do the most amazing things with the landscape Paul. Fabulous fabulous work.
Martin Derksema
A landscape as empty as the moon. I think empty landscapes strip the mind of superfluous ornaments. If I am in a landscape like this it makes my mind shut up … at last … ha ha. This undressed state of mind always gives me the feeling of being closer to my own essence. That is maybe what makes this kind of landscapes so attractive. The green wall and the number 48 is just amazing. The aircraft is stripped off to its essence too: thrust. But the abandoned engines also look as if they are castrated. No use for thrust, fighter jets and heroic pilots in this landscape. Here everything is reduced to what it is. Great work, Paul. Always love the clarity in your images.
majo
great colors in arizona

Now I am not one to be favouriting a lot of images, I feel that I need to be very specific about what I add. This is one of them. the colours and the feel that you give to the photo, very classical and almost a retro style with the colours.
James Stevens
It just makes me want to go Pod-Racing!
karen milder
another wonderful image, love the tone
billyboy
Paul, I love the vibe you`ve got in this. This part of the US is and always has been a very secretive place as regards military testing activity… you should read the book 101 Suns which is all about the nuclear bomb tests in the Nevada desert that spread deathly levels of fallout throughout the western US, especially Arizona and Utah.
These two discarded military fighter jet engines in the context you`ve put them have an aura of mystery and secrecy that veils the magnificance of this awesome place that shouldn`t have the dark history that it does. Excellent work!
paulevelin
feels great to see your work…always….and this is simply superb
chelsgus
Fantastic!
This image makes me laugh – it’s just so kooky. It makes me think Thunderbirds.
Maybe it’s the colors and dwarfed size of the engines that make my response so far removed from what billyboy (above) has commented on about this shot.
Maxhamish
I am really impressed by this piece…an excellent image in my opinion (and lots of others I see!).
Michael Lane
Awesome shot. Love the tones in this. I’ll have to check out Arizona…
Gratziela Gal
The mountains in the background look so carton, so fake…weird! It almost looks like a movie setting…
Mohammad Khaksar

Jeff Burns

Adrian Donoghue
Must have missed this one Paul, another beauty, love the starkness of the scene and colour, complimented by a very unusual and interesting subject material.

Jared Revell
You really know how to get the best out of everything Paul.
Great work once again.
Tony Fallon
What a fantastic image. Really different and really appealing !
botticcelli
the composition is unique..love the soft pastel tones
J.K. York
they seem so out of place, but your composition makes them part of the landscape. industrial/military erosion is a great subject. as always, your touch of superb balance and slightly surreal color makes this a wonderful piece of art.
Colin Tobin
I’m starting to thing you keep a stack of orange pylons in your camera bag. :)
Another great shot Paul. I always feel as though I’m looking into a parallel world when looking at your images.
Zaldy Infante
second time ‘round! who can compete against the double intake of visual solidity and softness?
berndt2
Great composition : love the unexpectedness of the image, and yet how naturally it’s been handled.
Plexus04

JohnScott
lol, they got trollies, maybe a salt lake time trial. This is great
