Naples Hills

Paul Vanzella

Naples Hills

Landing in Naples I was confronted by this vision of a blend of classical hillside with majestic buildings on top and the contrast of high density apartments and buildings, which are made up of little graphic squares upon graphic squares and plain concrete with minimal window frames. This just caught my eye – and I was fascinated with this mixture of styles just sitting there in the one place!

  • magicman

    magicman

has the feel of an imagined landscape from a novel or movie. the receding buildings each with their own array of windows suggest the ‘humanity as ants’ comparison. as others have said your colour handling has accentuated the unique feel of this image. i like the particularity of your imaginative vision.

Hey Paul, love your shot above…last year in Napoli travelling with my husband (who happens to be Italian) I must say I just fell in love with the grittiness of the place, so chaotic with old unnassuming buildings that you can easily walk past…yet if you stop & look many are churches of such grand ornate beauty once inside…I just couldnt stop shooting (when allowed of course)...We stayed in the old part of the city cntre near the university & had some of the best marghaerita, notwithsatnding delicious napolitana pizza in all of Italy which I’ll never forget.

Im not sure how, but somehow this image slipped by me. It’s like discovering your favourite author wrote a book you didn’t know about :)...

This reminds me of a dreamscape…Its real and yet not. It is also an incredibly extravagant display of light, shadow and geometry. I love all the windows, and the potential for discovery that they offer. All the lives being lived all on top of each other and the possibility that most people would be unaware of the others existance.

    Greatness.
