Lone Woman of Jaisalmer

Paul Vanzella

Lone Woman of Jaisalmer

When I wasn’t playing cricket with the locals, I was in awe of the landscape that is India. This is Jaisalmer, dubbed the golden city because of its honey colour. There are also two black chairs above one of the balconies, no safety railing to speak of…. what a place!

Lone Woman of Jaisalmer belongs to the following groups:

wow…. it’s like a movie set for a fantastical amazing scifi film set in the future past… lovely work… such rich tones…. it almost doesn’t look real… if you hadn’t have said you were really there I could have believed it was put together in PS …. nice one Pauly

Damn, that is a fantastic shot of an unreal place. Had you not pointed out those chairs I would not have seen them but they add a nice touch of modernity to a place dripping with history. Such a nice honeyed glow, too.

What this is real? This is a delightful place made more amazing with your masterful use of light and dark. it looks like a place which only appears in dreams. Truely a fine detail, I always enjoy your work but with this you have moved to a new level in my book. BRAVO!!

  • jiba

    jiba

Magical! This looks like an obscure piece of Surrealism, I love the completely mismatched construction of ancient Indian architecture, the straightest line in the whole image is one of the chair legs perched precariously on the balcony. The monsoon clouds in the background really do make the golden colours just that much more striking!

  • jemimalovesbigted

  • adgray

    adgray

I love the three layers of focus going diagonally across the page
It levels the piece and yet also give a 3D depth to it somehow!
The woman has created such a strange surreal perspective without her in it I could have believed the rocks to have been huge the buildings massive!
and I cant help wondering if “King Artur” had seen this city and created “Camelot” from sandstone to be the golden city as legend proclaimed! [would explain it’s disappearance – English rain would have melted it & winds blown the sand out to sea! lol]
Wonderful shot Sir! (& what was the score?)
    Chookas! X♥X

Wonderful fantasy feel to it and if you hadn’t said this was an actual place, Iwould have thought it was an extremely fine painting. You’ve captured the wonderful light, colours and mistiness so well – was it taken at sunrise or sunset?

Masterful use of light and dark Paul! “Wow” scratches the surface, the golden light is striking against the ominous stormy sky. It has the archtectural qualities of one of Ian Miller’s fantasy art citadels in the painterly finish you have given it – truly awesome piece of art!

  • Terence Russell

    Terence Russell

Paul, sorry to be so late joining the long line of admirers of this magnificent work. Strangely, it was your title that drew me in more than the thumbnail presentation. I thought I would have little to say that hasn’t already been said, as it is surreal and dreamy, as well as deep, well lighted, and wonderfully composed. But I did notice that not a one has mentioned the slight haze that seems to be hanging in the upper right corner, slightly dulling the color of those, for the sake of a better word, “parapets.” Speaking of the colors, they are so rich, and despite everything being so close in color, the tone variation is astounding. I can’t say this is better than any of your other fine images, but I’ll definitely have to include this among my favorites. I am sure I’ll want to look at it again.

This is beyond stunning, magical, masterful, fascinating and gorgeously surreal Paul!!!! I can hardly tear my eyes away to comment!!! The soft and deep golden light filtering & layering thru the unbelievable structures, the stormy greys of the sky and your eye and timing in capturing her in this perfect moment make this an absolute masterpiece.
You have the ability to consistently (as in always!) bring out the magic and depth unique to the subject and content of your images. But here, omigod!!!
I have been looking forward to seeing more from your time in India, but this is beyond the beyond Paul Vanzella ;)
