Texas

Paul Vanzella

Texas

...my attempt at photo journalism. This ride was actually a fully driving kustom car, built from many parts, almost like a sculptor would construct a piece… I noticed the more ratted your ride the cooler you are… this being the perfect example.

Wow, this would have to fit into a classic Vanzella in every sense of the word. The colour space, the flat illustration style, the hot rods, the texture and last but not least, the light poles….and then there’s my other favourite thing, shadows :) You’d have to be very proud of this Paul!

It’s a great image, Paul, but, I’m afraid that if my other half came home with something like that, it’d end up in the bin soquickly he’d wonder what happened to it! LOL @ Tracey, I agree with her. I love the subdued colours, it has an almost “other world” look.

the auto looks so alive…the boy/man..compassionate yet revears this massive icon. This signature light pole is teaching me much..if I was not in the airport on my iPhone I would attempt to write.. Such subtle wisdom in your choice of shots.

Wow, like I really hope this guy doesn`t hit a speed bump at over 5 mph!
Paul, you are so the master of the surreal.
You know, aside from your perfect timing and construction of the image to get your vibe nailed down (just love the way the guy on the bike is hob-knobbing with the cool…), there`s a recurring undertone in this amazing style of yours and each time you do something new I try to figure out what it is that is so compelling. OK, your warm lazy afternoon tones and your fine art processing do lots for engaging my total engagement… but what I also noticed is the way you split your square frame in half with all the action taking place in the lower half and leaving the top for the passive, open sky with those rolling clouds acting as the buffer zone. And then there`s that lamppost… smack in the center (Lina noticed this too), sticking straight up into the vast openness… It`s almost as if it`s a massive hypodermic sucking the scene out of the heavens on onto your amazing stage.

Paul, this is yet another masterpiece… ain`t your trophy cabinet getting kinda full by now??
Like my favs are overflowing cause of you!!

    CLiPiCs

a fifties book cover so beautifully rendered in that unmistakebale fashion

the oh so wonderful feel of a sunny afternoon perfectly caught with the clouds in the soft blue sky

the guy on the bike a wannabe “ratter” with his easyrider bars

and just to make the point in the middle distance a hot rod in the normal sense LOL

I have no idea how much of this was staged, nor do I care because the end result is an absolutely stunning image

    Bravo Paul

Love the colours and treatment in this and many of your works. It’s very distinct and if I lived in your world I’d always be able to wear my sunnies and a t-shirt and it would always be a little warmer for a little bit longer all the time. Cool stuff 8)

OK, I had to sleep on this one after favoriting it last night as it is masterwork from you with your signature style, and yet somehow breaking new ground as you do so often. The colors, textures and shadows are out of this world (and in your brilliant one!). The composition just kills me w/the four guys totally into it and the flames and side view of the car in back framing the right. The repetition of the 2 leaning tires on the left with the orange poles reaching into that how-did-you-do-it sky makes this an unbelievable image Paul!!! and I haven’t even mentioned the star here, the insane vehicle!! I’ll be at a kustom car show this weekend and I really don’t think I’ll be seeing anything like this!! I’ll give it a try though!! Soooo good I can’t stand it…

Great ‘painterly’ texture and tone, Paul, with a subtle touch of ‘Mad Max’ – or should I say ‘Angry Orville?’ The pragmatist in me is concerned about the ground clearance!

Dumb question….Paul, I take it that you have just been to the States?? This is indicative of your fab and famous style. That car is a beast and beauty is certainly in the eye of the owner. I like the casual conversation going on with the guy on the bike and the guy behind the wheel. This has to be a fave. Bet you had a great time there. Well done. Cheers Elana.

Saw a doco on custom cars where the boys had the hotted-up cars to attract girls and fast, rough looking ones to get away from them in. I would love to go over to the US to see all the hillbilly cars and houses that you don’t get to see usually.
