The Subway
You’re talkin’ to me…. or more to the point You’re “not” talkin’ to me….”
Riding the subway I finally managed to capture a cool snapshot of a New York moment. The position of the figures and that fact that no-one is looking at anyone else is amazing. I love the positions of the figures and their separateness and I think this picture depicts the mood and greyness of the subway. It’s also a bit of a Tony Soprano attitude…

You’re so right about the subtext here. They almost look “placed” in this shot, as if they’re actors waiting for the “Action” directive! It’s a fabulous moment of life you’ve captured and I also appreciate it for the red and white stripes and the yellow bobbles…Greatness, Paul:)

This is a cool shot. It tells such an excellent story.

Why is it that subways have all the charm of a public toilet? It’s not wonder commuters respond with the aggressive body language. Great shot.

Thanks for the great comments – and yes Melody, you know I’m a sucker for those graphic hard edge red and white stripes…

Excellent work Paul. Captured the moodiness and subliminal “alone-ness” perefectly, love the blur and framing too!

looks like the guy on the far right is trying too hard not to look at the camera, other than that great photo!

nicely framed Paul, I fancy a bit of graphic edge in my photos aswell. cool how you managed to capture them determinately ignoring the camera, i find it genuinly hard to do in Melbourne. Great shot!

Thanks for the comment Tom – as you can see the main man, I call him Tony Soprano doesn’t look to happy – ah the excitement of capturing the moment!

Wow…love this. Such a story behind it…gorgeous!
Michael Douglass
Can’t believe this one slipped past my radar, he’s a great central element to the photo, this is a bit different to the majority of your portfolio but like it a lot. Wonder what’s in the bag, some green? or maybe a pistrami on rye?

The attitude on the big guy, the way the others are studiously trying to avoid you, and the unreal atmosphere all come together into an amazing result. I could look at this for hours!

Loneliness among many in a city—perfectly done.

difficult to write any comment at any picture, as so many commented – and nothing to add.
so I’m surprised that there is not much said here. altough a very strong photograph. capturing all new york in one picture. great

Absolutely astonishing cinematic moment caught in ambient lighting – so good for its natural ease and depiction. The main figure tells a story, and the others walk around it, but not YOU – there you are, forcing it to life. This is walking, casual poetry and speaks so of the human condition. A lovely, beautifully composed shot.
