MissKristy
Oh my god..so regal. I absolutely adore kangaroo’s..this is beautiful Paul. Amazing work! I’m in awe.
Kitsmumma
Is it stuffed? Has a very surreal feel about it.
Christina Martin
OMG fabulous!
minoanphotography
This is quite strange, even though the kang is in what appears to be its natural habitat- the gritiness of the surrounding textures creates more of an urban landscape- the texture on the furr is awsum, Thjis could lead into a wonderful series- I love that paw.
eon .
Perfectly Australian
Bravo!
Adrian Jeffs
JO looks amazing in this one….she really captures the essence of australia here..
Suni Pruett
What a character and great expression shown….Very nicely done..I love the texture and feel of this one….A new favorite!!
Basia McAuley
So perfectly poised, great work!! Love the processing too!
StacyLee
Really stunning work!
Cathleen Taraw...
Majestic was not a word I would have used to descibe a kangaroo… until now. How did you get it to sit still? MnM’s? Valium? Or is it stuffed? I really like the lighting too; just a tiny bit sinister in the vane of Donny Darko.
Michael Alesich
Amazing shot Paul, He/She looks as though he’s deliberating like a judge.
The tone is perfect,
Andy73
Beautiful portrait, you made an already beautiful creature look even more amazing.
caseycastille
This is amazing! The texture, the pose, the colors – quite a remarkable piece in all facets.

karolina
beautiful pose- it almost looks like he hopped into your office and requested a portrait photo :)
you’ve really caught his/her character!
Mark German
Beautifully done, Paul. Not often you see a roo image of this quality. I love the vertical background and the proud stance. Really captures an original aspect of these creatures. Fine work.
Sandra Chung
Such a handsome guy! :)
Deborah Hally
Fantastic….this is not like any kangaroo I have seen before, whatever image you take ends up inhabiting strange world that is all your own….love it!!

I have seen the image of the kangaroo a thousand… No, a million times .. But never have I seen it presented quite like this. That is what makes this so special. It is removed from its typical Australiana portrayal and presented for the majestic creature it is.. It took me a while to adjust to this image… and I love it. It also makes me look at ‘the quiet earth’ and your recent images in a new way and I think that may be your aim here… an underlying theme perhaps… This is the work of a great artist.
schizoren
awesome shot!!
dark mmmm, statuesque maybe?
love it…
Paul Louis Vil...

Amanda J Slack...
Beautifully done. It looks like a proud ancestor photo you might see on the wall. ‘Well Skippy, this is your famous great uncle Skip…..’. Classic.
Stephen Mitchell
Wow. This made me think of the story book “Where the Wild Things Are” (sumfink like that).
And this Hairy Monster is scratching an itch in the small of his back… Nicely done!
Mel Brackstone

Sparky
Looks like a ‘thinking’ man’s ‘roo! But those claws!!!!
excellent depth and backlighting…a very unusual subject and treatment.
Love that you left out the legs….
victor
Taken nature photography to a new level, has an impressionist feel to it,......a bit of lippie and some frilly undie’s would have looked good to.
Graham Dean
He’s in profile so alot of his personality is concealed from us, but this roo oozes so much character he can’t hide it all. The unknown bits keeps me rivetted to this picture.
Nicole Wiedig
JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Nicole Wiedig
Whistler’s mother kangaroo
theurbannexus
Wow, that’s amazing. Like the placement of the roo in the dark forest, a nice touch away from the usual juxtapositions against red earth, blue sky and all. The darker side of this creature.
I wonder how many non Australians realise how dangerous these guys can be?
Andrew Bosman
Quite an amazing piece of art Paul, technically brilliant composite image…..
Another outstanding image from a man who is obviously at the top of his game.
Pilgrim
Paul, wildlife photographer. Who would have thought. He is very fine.
Heather Meadows
wow – this image is just amazing – great work!
Lisa Defazio
Ohh Skippy where have you been? What was that skip? Sonny’s fallen down the old mine shaft? And his dangling by the leg of his pants that got caught on a branch?
Great Stuff, reminds me of the old Melbourne Museum – very atmospheric.
Hiroko
Beautiful portrait Paul, he looks like he was posing just for you!!
Enrico Bettesw...
You’re certainly right Paul and what you have presented here is magnificent… I love your ability to juxtapose your subjects with their environments… your underlying concepts add another layer and a greater meaning to your work and the way that you handle your elements in regards to composition, lighting, framing, texture and colour grading is always superb and truely unique… another classic… well done!
freebornman
Hopping to my favs right now!

Evanickelbridger
Wow, how did you manage this? Please say it was just one good photo!
Julie Langford
Wonderful capture Paul. What a perfect pose. Lovely
Michelle422
Paul, This is a very olde world portrait of our national symbol. Indeed, I feel that I do not even recognise this animal compared to the kangaroos that visit our property. In fact, I don’t like the kangaroos who visit but I do love our wallabies which I have photographed. They are very sweet creatures.
dompech
Another great piece of work
lawrencew
Really nice.. we only often see “road-kill” up this way…
David Stuart
Utterly delightful. At first glance I could have sworn it was an oil.
shall
He looks almost Victorian, super!
Ponder
I love this… the profile is great, the subject is beautiful… its sitting htere kind of just ponderin’ :) Very nice lighting too!
Paul Tupman
This is fantastic! It looks like the kind of portrait that you would see hanging in some old school mens club.. Did the roo leave his smoking jacket, brandy and cigar just out of shot?
velveteagle
This is great.. If I were to walk up to him .. I fear he would turn and ask me for a smoke..
Pete Chennell
bloody hell mate!..amazing capture…dreamlike..great work
billyboy
Paul, we recognize him as a kangaroo, but you have transported him to planet Vanzella… and so he has taken on a unique character that we’ve never experienced before in any other kangaroo picture we’ve ever seen. This is what I was trying to say when I commented on your Venice image… you manage to bring a special mood to everything you photograph that makes your stuff so compelling to look at. I’ve probably sat here looking at this roo for longer than I’ve looked at any picture in ages, and that convinces me you are possibly the most talented artist on this site.
Jacky
Perfect model:) very beautifully done !
Charlie
I LOVE this….we don’t have those and the lighting is superb!!!
Lizzie Keitel
a handsome and majestic portrait!
David McAuley
Wow, very regal, stunning image. Is it Jo in a suit?

cheerishables
Wow! What an incredible capture. Love the profile perspective and the darkened surroundings. Very magical looking … reminds me of the type of thing you would see in a fairytale like “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.” Not sure why, but that’s what it makes me think of. You brought out both a sort of human side and a dream like quality. Very beautiful work!
rock
A most majestic shot Paul, this is quite amazing what a sensational capture.
Cheers,
Ronald
googa
Your a fine Photographer, welldone !
Andrew Hogan-...
this is really awsome
Louise Cooke
LOVE what you’ve done here Paul! So unique, never seen a roo portraited like this. Got to agree with Minoan..there is texture and grit that is kind of urban, yet obviously shot in nature..unreal!!
Denzil
Wonderful shot – that claw! How did you do this??? Amazing picture, as others have said, just like an oil painting.
myart

The de-familiarization of a national icon is what works for my here, such an atypical way to present an animal.

Paul Vanzella
replied
wow – why thank you for this incredible comment – i so wanted to give that kinda feel, like it could be hanging somewhere in parliament!
RenaeMackay
I can see it clearly hanging in timber-lined chambers – an oakleaf wooden frame. It paints an impressive picture Paul – again, this image is exceptional :)
Paul Vanzella
I love the colour palette Joesph Banks’ works sits in – so again, thank you for your insighful comment – makes the image so worthwhile! : ) PS: shall i sell it to Parliament.. hehehehe
Rebecca MacNau...
For those of us NOT priviledged to see these remarkable creatures in the wild, say, um, us AMERICANS, this is a special treat. And how noble he is, too. Let my gaze be in homage to the mighty kangaroo! Now, let me just have a peek into that pocket…...
Angel Gold
Love the detail in his coat. And how the lighting runs down his chest over his paws.
And the look in his eye… proud, curious and yet not sure whether its safe to move or not.
Very cool!!!
