This is quite strange, even though the kang is in what appears to be its natural habitat- the gritiness of the surrounding textures creates more of an urban landscape- the texture on the furr is awsum, Thjis could lead into a wonderful series- I love that paw.
Majestic was not a word I would have used to descibe a kangaroo… until now. How did you get it to sit still? MnM’s? Valium? Or is it stuffed? I really like the lighting too; just a tiny bit sinister in the vane of Donny Darko.
Beautifully done, Paul. Not often you see a roo image of this quality. I love the vertical background and the proud stance. Really captures an original aspect of these creatures. Fine work.
I have seen the image of the kangaroo a thousand… No, a million times .. But never have I seen it presented quite like this. That is what makes this so special. It is removed from its typical Australiana portrayal and presented for the majestic creature it is.. It took me a while to adjust to this image… and I love it. It also makes me look at ‘the quiet earth’ and your recent images in a new way and I think that may be your aim here… an underlying theme perhaps… This is the work of a great artist.
Wow. This made me think of the story book “Where the Wild Things Are” (sumfink like that). And this Hairy Monster is scratching an itch in the small of his back… Nicely done!
Looks like a ‘thinking’ man’s ‘roo! But those claws!!!! excellent depth and backlighting…a very unusual subject and treatment. Love that you left out the legs….
He’s in profile so alot of his personality is concealed from us, but this roo oozes so much character he can’t hide it all. The unknown bits keeps me rivetted to this picture.
Wow, that’s amazing. Like the placement of the roo in the dark forest, a nice touch away from the usual juxtapositions against red earth, blue sky and all. The darker side of this creature.
I wonder how many non Australians realise how dangerous these guys can be?
Quite an amazing piece of art Paul, technically brilliant composite image….. Another outstanding image from a man who is obviously at the top of his game.
Ohh Skippy where have you been? What was that skip? Sonny’s fallen down the old mine shaft? And his dangling by the leg of his pants that got caught on a branch?
Great Stuff, reminds me of the old Melbourne Museum – very atmospheric.
You’re certainly right Paul and what you have presented here is magnificent… I love your ability to juxtapose your subjects with their environments… your underlying concepts add another layer and a greater meaning to your work and the way that you handle your elements in regards to composition, lighting, framing, texture and colour grading is always superb and truely unique… another classic… well done!
Now THIS is a stunning roo shot!! I’ve never before seen a photo of a kangaroo that made me stop and gaze at the finer detail…this is something really special!
This portraits represents to me what I think the first europeans to visit Australia would have felt about this animal… mysterious and unfamiliar… and very cute ;)
Paul, This is a very olde world portrait of our national symbol. Indeed, I feel that I do not even recognise this animal compared to the kangaroos that visit our property. In fact, I don’t like the kangaroos who visit but I do love our wallabies which I have photographed. They are very sweet creatures.
This is fantastic! It looks like the kind of portrait that you would see hanging in some old school mens club.. Did the roo leave his smoking jacket, brandy and cigar just out of shot?
Paul, we recognize him as a kangaroo, but you have transported him to planet Vanzella… and so he has taken on a unique character that we’ve never experienced before in any other kangaroo picture we’ve ever seen. This is what I was trying to say when I commented on your Venice image… you manage to bring a special mood to everything you photograph that makes your stuff so compelling to look at. I’ve probably sat here looking at this roo for longer than I’ve looked at any picture in ages, and that convinces me you are possibly the most talented artist on this site.
Wow! What an incredible capture. Love the profile perspective and the darkened surroundings. Very magical looking … reminds me of the type of thing you would see in a fairytale like “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.” Not sure why, but that’s what it makes me think of. You brought out both a sort of human side and a dream like quality. Very beautiful work!
LOVE what you’ve done here Paul! So unique, never seen a roo portraited like this. Got to agree with Minoan..there is texture and grit that is kind of urban, yet obviously shot in nature..unreal!!
Gorgeous! i love evrything about this image! the background is stunning and the roo has such a….strong peacful focused feeling to it its amazing, really well done
A great photograph Paul the crisp clean details … just fantastic, Spectacular image. Excellent animal portrait… the expression captivates the viewer ..image is well lit, composed, exposed and executed. Well done.
