To Highway
Again, continually obsessed with the Italian signage and autostrades – and then all of a sudden this landscape just cried out to me. It was so perfect, just the way I like it – sparse, remote, golden and with a hint of industry driving past. I waited, risking a small amount of life and death, waiting for the right vehicle to drive past – could not have asked for anything better as this truck with perfect streamlined graphics appeared matching perfectly with the blue sign and all. I’m done!

Congratulations..its only when one feels life and death behind the lens that you start to truly appreciate the photos you are taking. So many brilliant photos Paul. Your output is awesome.
Hayley Lees
How do you get that ‘dreamy’ effect with all your work? Setting on camera? Film? Processing?
I love it, it’s kind of got the lomo with slide film look .. but better!! all your photos are great, they don’t look static, I don’t know what it is … but they all feel like they have an element of movement in them … keep posting

Nice! Have you ever thought of using HDR? I know you would like what you could do with it, and since your photoshop skills are very good you could easily turn the HDRs into very nice images, since a HDR is always still a pretty rough result without the finetuning of Photoshop.

I’ve never seen a sign, truck and road all look so beautiful. Great composition and colors.

Paul, I think this may have been the first of your works that I saw after joining Red Bubble. I thought, “Wow, this is good.” It reminded me of my favourite artist Jeffrey Smart.
But, as I have found, your work is so very diverse. I have tried to view all your works but my dial up Internet is too slow when loading. We are going to get a satellite connection soon so I will really be able to dive in! I have been telling my friends about you as well. Best wishes, Michelle.

Very interesting…which way?...I know the arrow shows one which way they should go…but what would happen if they went the other?
Cool truck by the way…

I faved this a few days ago, but failed to leave a comment because of time constraints. However, I have to say this is one of your best pictures. There is so much going on that words do not even do it justice. For you to capture the truck going by with a BLUE stripe (of all things) is simply amazing and really finishes the image off with a bang. Keep up the good work Paul.
P.S. I wish you sold this as a card.

card available now… i have this like 1.5m wide on canvas hanging in my lounge room, and yes, i waited for that truck – good old Italian landscape offered up the perfect colour palette! How cool! : ))

If only life could be so clearly signposted. Our Maker obviously wasn’t Italian ;)

the fork in the road that we all encounter… the time to make that choice that will effect the direction of our lives. I just love the symbolic nature of this work. It means so much to me – thank you.
Now is the arrow a temptation or a guide – yet another fork.
No Smart here – pure Vanzella.

fabulous image – and stellar timing!
Sharon Mau
‘Ae! It is so classic and perfect in everyway!

This image is actually making me think, no, I don’t want to go right, purely because the sign is telling me to! Then the other sign in the distance looks like it’s pointing upwards! I want to go that way instead! Excellent composition here, Paul!! :-)
AnaCBStudio
yeah…you are done…great shot!
Daniel Sly
Interesting shot, really well done!

Cools! apparently italian drivers are as insane as their roads! ...couldnt be as bad as NZ though… ...iv seen a round-about with 2 major roads intersecting and a train like going through the middle of that!
