Venice Rain
I tried to capture classic muted tones in this image – hoping for the illumination of reflective rain and wetness to add that special impact.

Reminds of a scene from “Don’t Look Now” set in Venice…..expecting to see the little girl in the red riding hood outfit popping out of the shadows.

Finally finished one of my outstanding stories and it was this image i had in my head. The mood was just right.
Stephen Colquitt
Great dreamy effect on this shot.
Helene Kippert
Awesome shot!
Kenneth Pang
This is a great shot. I was in Venice only last month and I wouldn’t recognise it from your pic (not that that’s a good or a bad thing…). It gives me an impression of what Venice might look like in another 20, 30 years (assuming the water levels haven’t risen too dramatically by then)—very few tourists and the streets are somewhat ‘clean’. Like a surreal mixture of Manhattan with Venice. Nicely done.
Christiaan
Very nice! I like the light and colours. And the fact that you went out and took this shot in the rain.
Jordan Clarke
i know its not even close – but the mood you have captured here reminds me of when i grew up in Hong Kong…i think its the peeling posters on the wall and the light reflecting off the rain…just stunning
alexa70
Beautiful !! love this shot !!
Mel Brackstone
Oh mannn….are you standing in the rain with a tripod and camera to get this shot??? Awesome.

Nice moody shot. Reminds me a bit of a hosed-down indoor market in Varanasi – but without the people. (Which is kind of impossible in India).

claire jones

Yeah it’s great you captured the rain well. It reminds me of a laneway in paris. love it.
Douzy
My comment will get lost here among all the compliments but they are well deserved!! Great colours and atmosphere!!
Nando MacHado
I’m still trying to get this kind of “liquid” touch in my pictures… ‘till I succeed I’m happy enough to stand in awe.
Melinda Kerr
Wow Paul I hadn’t seen this one. You’ve captured the ‘gloss’ that rain creates, which always looks so wonderful in monotone. This to me is different from you usual style. Sounds a strange thing to say but to me it’s a little more 3D or something. I shouldn’t say monotone-it’s really more gold and silver. I think that’s what I like most about it.
mikoto
this looks like a video game. where is my gun,
Lachlan Kent
I’m glad I saw this one on the home page. I might not have seen it otherwise. Fantastic image Paul. Such wonderful light and atmosophere.

Amazing photo, the ‘street’ is eerily empty…so crowded normally… :)
justjulie
fantastic feel to this (and all) your shot – someone likened your style to jack Vettriano – I have to agree – you have that wonderful filmic quality to your compositions and I love it!
midzing
excellent work,,, love it.
billyboy
I think of all the artists on Redbubble, your work amazes me in that you are so versatile at capturing such a vast scope of moods. This is the first moment I’ve had to sit down and check out your gallery, and I cannot find one image that doesn’t make a compelling view. You use so many different processing techniques that every new image is a surprise, and it is this particular ability that ensures the art of photography will endure the test of time. Thanks for blowing me away! BB
kristian94
really cools shot!
love it!
Douzy
Hi Paul, this is the first photo I ever favourited on RB months ago and it’s still my all time favourite. Not sure why, I love everything about this, the darkness, wetness, golden glow, red umbrella… Keep going back to it. Fabulous work.

Jean M. Laffitau
Excellent and moody shot!
Rhana Griffin
I’m taking another wander… =) This is insanely gorgeous Paul, what I simply adore about it is the way the light pours forth from the shopfront to the right, beckoning to the passerby to come in out of the rain and cold. Trapped in his own thoughts however, he seems oblivious… even though the golden warmth of light pools around his feet in a last ditch attempt to capture his attention.
Paul Vanzella
replied
wow – what an incredible summation Rhana – and thank you for looking through and liking this image, this is one of my favourites, very lucky to have been there at the right point in time… to capture this- thanks for your kind words…!

you definitely succeeded in adding that special impact!! The light contrasting against the deep dark is so soft, warm and comforting… almost magical…
I feel compelled to want to stand in front of that shop window to see what’s there!!
I’m transported…
thank you.
Pip Gerard
The comment above from Lorna was actually written by me (Pip). It wasn’t till after I’d written the message did I realise that I was signed in as my Mum (was visiting & helping with her bubble stuff).
I know it’s probably a who cares situation to most.. . but to me I feel compelled to make it known because the feelings I felt and wrote about were real to me and it feels wrong that they be portrayed as coming from someone else.

Talk about missing the bus!! Which rock was I under when you unleashed this beauty?? Magical capture mate! :D

I guess I don’t even have to tell you how much I like this. You know my taste. But I will anyway! I love it. Well done!
gail anderson
wonderful image. really creates a story in the mind of the viewer… or at least mine. I imagine him in a hurry to get home and out of the cold. i think it’s a loft nearby, with a cat lying near the window, watching the rain, waiting for warmth to walk thru the door.
Bradley Nichol
Sue Wickham
Pure magic. This is wonderful Paul.
It was in one of the beautiful shops in a laneway like this where I met the most wonderful old man. He was waiting for his daughter to finish locking up so they could go home together. We were browsing around the shop and he asked us where we were from, and how long we had been in Venice. When we had finished chatting, he motioned for us to take a seat for a minute”You must be tired from all the walking, – in Venice we have no Donkeys”. I don’t know why, but those words have stuck with me for all these years. Sorry for rambling – your photo brough the memories flooding back. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. One day I will publish a book called “In Venice We Have No Donkeys”.
Paul Vanzella

Al Neaimi
all around perfect
Joanne Bradley
The capture of light and contrast of those golden tones are what captured my attention at first with this image! But upon further examination I am intrigued by the figure holding the red umbrella. It is this apparation in the night that focuses the whole shot and draws me down the alley.

Lovely cinemascape. I love an artwork that evokes multiple memories. In the same instance I was thinking of Bladerunner and a 19th century painter whose name escapes me.

This is a stunning picture! Instant favorite!! :)
Kirrill D'Kainn
To Paul Vanzella.
... a wide cinematic cropping of a image tends to de-emphasize depth in favour of breath … but as you see in this – your own work – this Bazin theory is totally destroyed by this master work.
Fantastic … what you have done here with the art of photography is what Gunnar Fischer has achieved in motion pictures … my god this is great.
Kirrill D’Kainn.

What more can I add Paul; love the pools of light in the doorways and the general dreaminess you have created with the composition. It reveals something new each time you view it. You have captured the ‘mood’ perfectly. I am not surprised it is one of your personal favs.

Another of my favorite’s.
I love the concept of the subject and location, it reminds me of the movie Sin City .
The low lighting and the rain work well togeather. I like how all the structural edges in the paving and window edges pull the eye to the lone man walking down the street.
Great shot Paul.
