Hong Kong Skyscrapers

Paul Vanzella

Hong Kong Skyscrapers

I adore the Hong Kong cityscape – there are these awesome buildings that are literally stacked against eachother, each building with its own intricate building block formation, stacked upon itself, interconnecting and forming the huge picture that is the Hong Kong cityscape. The use of repetition is expansive and seems to go on forever – gotta love that! There is also this futuristic component that exists in the architecture as well as industry poking through. Mmmmm industry….

For me, this really has a dystopian feel to it – it’s unsettling and a little disturbing. The amber haze adds to the feeling of menace.
Once again Paul, wonderful painterly qualities and superb composition.

WOW – This is an incredible image… really blew me away!.. Love the scale emphasized by the car and the detail in the distance to the left. Can’t stop looking at it! (I have been hitting refresh on ‘Paul Vanzella’ all week… Either having too much fun or no internet access in little Italy – keep em’ coming)

HI Paul, another amazing photo from you. Do you manipulate these in any way to get such a surreal effect?

  • Elaine van Dyk

    Elaine van Dyk

What a magnificent image Paul! I almost expect another identical building to sprout up next to this line of buildings. But I’m with Graeme Hindmarsh here – those building, with the addition of the futuristic metallic one in the background, and the overall colour gives this image an ominious and unsettling mood. Wonderful effect!

  • Christiaan

Ah yes, Hong Kong as some really cool cityscapes, which I love… I also love the building in the background, looks amazing. Have you heard of the nickname “penciltown”? Basically there are so many tall buildings, maybe only 10 stories high, not yet skyscrapers, but all standing right next to eachother, that seen from above it looks like a pot of pencils all standing up straight!
