Bored Intersection
Featuring my daughter Siena, Bored Intersection is one of those moments you get when travelling overseas with small children. Resting on a balustrade with head in arm, she gathers some momentum before propelling her small frame onward. What you find fascinating doesn’t actually connect with a six year old – “What you mean all those beautiful perfectly placed graphic signs aren’t doing it for you…. I ask politely?”

Paul your my favourite photographer on here. Was talking to a friend today about your work, was checking out an oil refinery and wondering how I can take pics without looking like a terrorist. How the hell did you come across Sector 7G.
Joe Mortelliti
Very effective,love it

I’m loving your little additions Paul.
Your daughters presence gives this pic such life.

I love your work Paul! The treatment and the composition of this piece is great and I’m sure most people can relate to being bored travelling with their parents and not appreciating what they’ve seen until they’re much older.
Craig Shillington
Well done Paul!! Even without your words on this, the photo says so much! You are truly fascinating!! :D:D Love your stuff :)
Pilgrim
I’m with you Paul, can’t see why she just isnt fascinated by this all. I hope she didnt mind sticking around for the hour or two it took to shoot! Great work

There is so much to love about this. The title is great because although the intersection may seem boring, there is so much to see. I love the way the arrows point in the opposite direction to the subjects gaze… out of the frame, the airconditioners, the beautiful reflection in te water on the handrail, even the concrete barriers look beautiful. Just love it Paul!
Belinda Strodder
By the way… my children get bored when I’m out and about photographing too!

Awesome image Paul! I love the yellows with all those arrows and road signs all pointing in the same direction, and the inclusion of your little girl in red at the right hand corner.

This is sensational work…I enjoy the suggestion of space and atmosphere beyond the frame. Thanks, PWR.

So, so clever Paul. I love this magic moment!

I don’t like it….................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................NOT!.... I love it in so many ways. One of your best… The (signature) treatment and the colours are fantastic… But the real art in this one for me is that you actually saw this and captured it… Its Magic!

great picture… good shot and well done color manipulation!!! has such a busy and calm impact at the same time!... love it!

Do you think those arrows and signs are trying to say something? Your daughter looks as if she is daydreaming about silly adults needing so many signs to say ‘go left’!! It’s a great photo… I imagine that there are birds that hang around that tiny bit of green as well.
Far out… I had to scroll down miles to get to the bottom of this page!!!
Pirostitch
this is such a fantastic photo! The processing is done to perfection, if you’re still in doubt of whether to do anything to it – DON’T! It’s perfect as it is. It has a surreal, yet innocent look to it which is also strengthened by the inclusion of your daughter.
Melody
What an incredible photo you’ve made! It is like looking into memory. How fabulous are those strategically places signs? They must have known you were coming. I love the inclusion of Siena. It’s as if we are witnessing her record this as her memory. I do wonder what she was thinking her body language suggests “Thought” to me.
Brillant as usual:)

Yeah Top Notch Paul

So you are THAT Paul Vananzella!
My magazine rack holds the May 2006 issue 216 of DESKTOP. Guess who graces pages 39 – 43, five pages whose corners are dog eared and thumb printed?
Yes, you do. “Twenty One Days in India”. Are those photographs on RedBubble?

Poor little dot….the things we do to our kids for our art :) I’m sure she’ll appreciate this in 20 or so years, Paul :) Meanwhile, we can all appreciate it now!

Sums up the reality of living with us. Guilty.

The images and way-of-seeing you present are awesome Paul. I am really getting into not only looking at them as ‘wholes’, but also looking into the detail and the work I can see goes into them. Great photo-graphics!
Jodie Johnson
I love the way this looks like an oil painting. Beautiful!

This reminds me of when I was 6 and I would tag along with my Dad while he took photos of intersections to support whatever argument he was seeking to make in court. I loved hanging with my Dad but man, I saw a crapload of intersections!

Great work – Excellent!!!

Missed this one, Siena looks as if she’s trying to grasp what your “on” about here, either that or she secretly wishing you’d have a thing for Disneyland instead…..
I love graphic signs too, but shooting them and applying awesome treatments is definitely your domain :-)

What a wonderfully clever image! The balustrade’s use as a leading line adds a powerful dynamic movement into the scene – yet the same objects also potrays a guide rail out of the image for your daughter – who is clearly not caring at this point about art. The misty air at the top gives a sense of dreaming and as such represents maybe the girl’s mind wandering elsewhere – to ice creams, slides, a day at the beach. Yet the taunting chevrons point across the road, “what urban scene do they beckon me towards?” thinks Paul…....... “l ‘m bored Dad, can I have an ice cream please?”
