Excellent, at first glance, it looks like a simple shot, but, on closer inspection, and after I managed to tear my eyes away from the girl, I noticed there are other things going on. Can’t believe the guy is looking out the window, is he gay? (and before anyone starts thinking I am homophobic, I am not, I’m only asking a question).

Wonderful as always. All your creations make you think …

The title is so clever, The Dissociates as it fits the emotional tone of this artograph.

I love that there are so many visual and interpretative layers to be experienced within this image.
I love the cool blue hues and the way the light is filtering in through the window.
The stoic/apathetic facial expressions are very interesting too.

You stir the imagination in such mysterious ways . . .

    I ADORE YOU

Wow! This speaks powerfully to me about emotions on the floor and leaking out the door ….words spent and nothing more to say.

    Attentions elewhere, focus shifted…...

The routines so familiar the detail is lost…..

    A relationship ended.

This is a very interesting image, Paul. The model looks transfixed and mannequin-like…....and she has such an interesting face….....love her….... You, on the other hand, have such a relaxed, casual pose…....and look very smart in your suit…........ quite the executive. You are hardly two peas in a pod….!!!!! lol ….....which is what makes this exciting (one wonders what the hell you two are doing together…........!!!.) The room you are both in is mysterious and makes you peer into it’s dark corners. This works on so many levels….........a credit to you.

  • mstrace

Mmm..this absolutely has the signature VZ treatment, but the setting itself was unexpected.

I find the apple with the single slice cut from it and the French press intriguing. Don’t know why. I love the luminescent sheen to her skirt. I didn’t even notice at first that she was baring a breast, since the lines of it do not protrude out of her profile in any way to draw attention to it. Subtle. Nice touch. Sexy in a strangely sad way because both figures are looking out the window, disconnected from each other yet sharing the same space.

  • Susan Trigg

Breakfast in the Vanzella house can be a complicated matter when Pauls sister Pauline comes to visit. Thankfully the hospital ensure she has adequate medication to stop her climbing the walls and her special jacket with the extra long huggy arms is never far away.
This visit was different, Mrs V had to go and see her mother leaving Paul to master the roll of Man of the house. It is not going well, firstly there was an argument over what type of eggs to cook. Paul likes boiled while Pauline likes poached! today it resulted in Pauline hurling the raw eggs out of the window! unfortunately Paul had just closed the window because of a nasty draught. Both now stare frostily at the mess on the window daring the other to comment and start world war three.
Then there’s the coffee Pauline likes hers like she likes her men… strong and black! while Paul insists on adding a large tumbler of vodka to each cup of the morning elixir, claiming that a semi coma is the only way he can survive the breakfast table and Paulines company.
    Ahhhh yes indeed Happy Families.

The title says it all! Amazing lighting and characters. Incredible, as if I have stepped into the middle of a movie and don’t know what’s going on. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see if I can pick up the plot after the next few frames!

  • Anthony R. Plastino III

    Anthony R. Pla...

Whatever it is, they are both looking at it – and she cannot captivate him anymore, yet another of the things he enjoys for a time, then moves on with his busy day – He’s sipped the coffee, had a bit of the apple, some cheese, and a bit of a squeeze, now he needs to leave. Flavors lingering briefly, but the taste is gone, and he contemplates how boring his life has become, and contemplates the senselessness, and now wonders how he ever got here. He has taken absolutely everything for granted, acknowledges no-one, and attributes his success to his simply being awesome… Yet here he sits, unimpressed and pathetic… Why she stays with him is yet another story…

Putting aside that this is a visually stunning image, with its light and shades and the setting is entirely just right.

My immediate reaction aside from the above – was. They are associated; sharing in the same focal point. Their shared stare outside/outward emphasises: he in his suit, perhaps gaining his sense of self from a business world, she with her gorgeous physicality baring her sense of self.

I’d like to see a follow up to this, of a look of recognition……that their dissociation comes from the same misguided place.

I am really enjoying your work. Your idea of the frame is clean but always very alive-active-elements transforming or sliding toward transformation. And here that is palpable to great impact, like the moments before the high point in a symphony. Great stuff. And of course all this is so masterfully realized by you. You have a great eye. —Tim

I haven’t been able to get this image out of my mind tho I admit I’ve not been trying very hard!! It is beyond memorable -so well thought out and stunningly gorgeous to look at while engaging the mind on many levels. And does my mind deceive or are you wearing athletic shoes and about to run?..... Disassociates indeed, and we are left to wonder if they were ever truly “associates” and what forces acted upon them to bring them to this dislocated place. brilliant image Paul…
