Mercedes Building

Paul Vanzella

Mercedes Building

Shot from the roof garden of Crown casino – showing an austere view of the Melbourne cityscape. There were all these cool air conditioning vents and massive cooling towers amidst this very well thought out landscape of hedges…

I am so interested to see more like this. This along with The Tourists and Tarmac and Bruno would make a lovely set!

What a wonderful shot. Beautiful colours, tones and a suitable crop. But the thing I notice most is the wonderful composition and how the building is subtle in a way, yet prominent.

Paul, I love your style. The way you control your colors and your contrast is so superb. All your images are visionary. I love the muted tones on this image. And the door with the exit sign over it gives it a “exit to the real world” feeling. Very industrial and architectonica, with a little bit of light over the clouds as a hint of a “new dawning”. Perhaps just in my weird way of thinking. This image adds beautifully to your great body of work. Master of a style. Great image.

This is interesting Paul. Like some of your other images this reminds me of diorama. It’s quiet and so still. It makes me think this place is deserted of any human life, like the day after a nuclear holocaust.. the calm after the storm if you like. Really interesting style.

I kinda love being able to pick the locations in some of your work. You know if you’ve been there but they are not in your face. I can see South Melbourne but can’t work out which direction your facing.
