.. and the wind blows .. changes direction .. things change ..

but it always swings around again .. because it’s the wind .. and i remember once someone sang a song about cool change ..

I love how these two figures are walking toward each other .. through the spaces where the winds direction is obvious .. against the breeze .. and there’s that beautiful large building of love that you have in another image …

this is true Vanzella brilliance xx

The title seems to underline the eerie and foreboding atmosphere of the image, where the figures stand insignificantly against the silently tryrannical backdrop of impersonal space and strangely compelling objects. (Jeffrey was so Smart he let Paul Vanzella do the photography!).

I love how in some of your work the sky dominates the frame and anything else going on seems distant or small. It causes the viewer to feel as if they are looking at something beautiful from very far away, yet it has a looming quality that is kinda profound. I also think the wind socks are beautiful.

  • Robyn Lakeman

    Robyn Lakeman

The title is so true Paul and your capture and processing are just wonderful. With the large expanse of sky you can really feel the isolation of the two people.

This image leads you on the walk with them. Your usual flair for large spaces and small objects combining to create a superb elemental marriage is in full bloom here again. Well done indeed.

  • Lisa Jewell

    Lisa Jewell

The kindness of strangers is one of the beautiful elements we humans can hold dear. So often, I’ve considered that those brief encounters; with a stranger…. that gave a smile or a helping hand, are some of the most poignant moments in my life, ones I do reflect upon. (of course apart from the familiar and family)….

I always enjoy the tones you use, there is such an earthly soul to them.

  • Zaldy Infante

    Zaldy Infante

i admire your vision paul! the left structure is boldness without humility. the posts on the right is humility without boldness. the human figures bold to move AND humble in pace – the balance. the slope of the land symbolises that these figures do not regard themselves in high, or on the other side too low, in esteem. the figures are clearly in the light, clothed and walking in righteousness, whereas the building and the posts tip off to darkness. the color of the land symbolic of walking out of barrenness to life and providence.

  • Zaldy Infante

    Zaldy Infante

oh.. yes one other thing I noticed.. provided the figure on the right is a male concludes he is the leader as he has stepped into the promised land; and provided the figure on the left is a female a few steps behind him indicates her support in his leadership and direction. the bold man and the humble woman in unity.

  • Phil Thomson IPA

    Phil Thomson IPA

Paul, I commend you on this outstanding image !! I like the feeling of vastness and seeming desolation, and the stance of a person, lost and bewildered, looking in anticipation toward the help of a stranger, that has been blown in by the wind, as answer to a cry for help!!!

  • leecemee

    leecemee

your work is very interesting. It has a distinct ‘jeffery smart’ flavour to it. (hope you read this as a BIG compliment). there is a very bizarre ‘painterly’ quality to it which i find intriguing… the images seem flat, yet have so much depth…and then there’s the content! wow!
