Housing Commission: Collingwood
I was having lunch with my beautiful wife the other day at a rather unusual place, right across the road from my office. Never been there before… it was at the Northern Metropolitan Institute of Tafe and they have the special room on the third floor where trainee chefs get to practice their cooking skills and serve to the unsuspecting public.
This was the view virtually from the table I was sitting at… the view was way better than the food!

I didn’t think it was possible to make this commission housing look good but you sure have done it!! This angle and the clear sky make this look almost cartoon like. Great work as always Paul.
Ben Hughes
Oh, beautifully done! I have a love affair with these buildings and you’ve captured them better than I ever managed to.
kcranmer
Looks like a wonderful place Paul, very beautifully taken…would love to see you perched on that wall too…for perspective reasons of course, hehe!!
Ena Lü
It looks like the villa capri darlink! i love how u hve changed the whole mood
no longer commission housing! very chic
I like the way the heavy granite wall in the foreground anchors the brightness
love this..
Denzil
Very Hockney! Love the hint of plants at the top of the wall.
~ Selle
These buildings give me the screaming heebie jeebies whenever I visit Melbourne. You’ve managed to make them look far less bleak and depressing :)
Carmelh
Such a great capture…..whilst you were dining….so a man can do two things at the one time!!!!!
Hans Kawitzki

Wonderful filling of the space, atmospheric! :D

A very fresh and beautiful perspective. I love how the little palm trees pop over the top too. They look like little tufts of grass. Gorgeous as always =)
Mel Brackstone
What an amazing view! You have served up a wonderful dish to us here. Tasty light and shadow, as well as special sauce framing and topped with the garnish of wonderful sky.
Alf Caruana

Tom Gomez

zacco
great view
Shanina Conway
Shame about the food Paul…but you managed to save the day by somehow making housing commission flats look harmonious;)
David Harris
Nice eye you have there Paul!! Great perspective on another wise dull tower block!!
Rhana Griffin
This shouldn’t work… that big block of dark concrete at the bottom should present a barrier to the viewer, turning them away. And yet for some strange reason it doesn’t. The buildingd in the background compell the viewer to want to take a step closer, to catch a peek over the edge and see the whole picture.
It works. =)
Andrew Walker
Professor Vanzella stood in front of the hushed auditorium, his hair wild and unkept and half his breakfast still in his scrappy beard. His entire thesis on the organic regeneration of inner cities hinged on this point.
“As ve can see by this time lapse shot, multi-storey tower blocks no longer need to be built, this image shows the growth of them from left to right. Vith the correct preparations of ze ground they vill grow from seeds and vithin six months they reach a height of 24 floors!”
He hoped his accent hadn’t made him sound too much like Doctor Strangelove, he he scanned the room looking for anyone agreeing with him, the bright lights hurt his eyes but the snickering and guffaws heard suggested differently.
Lindsay Blamey
sometimes your best image is right under your nose…
The image sublime : The cropping superb.

TAFE will never be the same again…...........................
Ian James
Something beautiful from something so ordinary….lovely image with your usual great tones.
Paul Tupman
This is fantastic Paul.. your treatment in this is really compelling, looking more like a fine art illustration than a photograph. Its an odd composition with the wall in the foreground blocking the view but one that works so well. Love all the fine detail in this, the windows, the church cross, the cloud.. excellent work!
twinkletwinkle
I love these buildings, strangely. Your photos are always so uncluttered and simple but interesting. Love the way this almost looks like an illustration!!
ltruskett
I agree, totally with TwinkyDinks….............it does look like an illustration….....you are a legend with these simplistic, yet mesmerizing images…........................(“We are not worthy”.......said whilst bowing) ;+)

Nice one Paul.

As you say, some of the best photos may be hidden in what we see every day! Love how the pink of the sky lends itself to the buildings making it look as if they are chameleons, slowly taking on the color of their surroundings.
Robyn Lakeman
You make the housing commission flats look fabulous Paul. Love the comp and colours
Antoine Dagobert
Man those light and colors…what a composition! Love it!

Franklin Lindsey
You live in a spacious city Paul, or maybe it’s the condo’s at Chernobyl. However simple, always has your unique style…
Adrian Donoghue
I’m a big fan of your minimalist urban landscapes Paul, this is another beauty, well seen, I love the softness of the foliage at left contrasting with the hard lines of the buildings.

I had to laugh at Andrew Walkers description, but in the end I’m still sitting here in awe of how you can produce such an interesting and compelling image from such traditionally ugly and mundane objects. Love your eye, Paul Vanzella.

Great job Paul once again, I love the treatment you use on your work.

Hi Paul. I really like this – it reminds me of the work of Australian artist Jeffrey Smart. In fact come to think of it, you and he have a similar ‘eye’ What he does with a brush, you can create with your camera and your magic touch with PS!

Very minimalist! Great stuff Paul, it continues to suprise me how you find/see so much of this style, though from what I know of Melbourne it would be a great training base for it.
