Lucky Vegetable talks cooking, and creativity
Questions: Paul
Answers: The Vegetable known as Lucky
How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life?
Well, it means always being the weirdest at any social gathering, although it does say something of my choice of friends that this isn’t by much. (That’s a compliment, everyone, I love you!) Also, because I’m a bit of a ‘thing’ and dip my grubby artistic mitts into everything, it means that I never settle long enough to distract me from the pursuit of chocolate and picture books. And I’ll never be able to describe my work as representing ‘man’s inhumanity to man’. Cause you can’t say that with a straight face, when you’ve just drawn a marshmallow with eyes and a star on his bum.
Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special or meaningful.
That’s embarassing! I feel like I should be pulling out a tear-jerker of an anecdote now. Good job I’ve seen more than one episode of Oprah…
Um..simply put, I have found people through the Bubble that give me hugs, food, and care if I have a crappy day or not. I think that’s pretty cool. And even more people who I want to meet and hang out with because of their work, their sense of humour, their character. In that way, it’s a little like a school, only no-one’s chucking their lunch at me and calling me a nerd. So, that’s a bit of a bonus.
There are of course lots of ‘moments’, but they come out most clearly in my work. Everything I do, is about someone, for someone, inspired by someone, or an experience with someone. Without those times, I’d be drawing the most boring of stick figures, and writing complete twaddle. Although the word ‘twaddle’ might actually look ok on a tshirt…
By the way, when you’re done reading this, check out Paul’s elephant pictures. I bought one. They’re great =)
In your writing, is there any single recurring theme or subtext that you find yourself coming back to, over and over again? Or is each piece of writing distinct in it’s underlying imagery?
Hahah, ok this is a hard one. I guess the only thing I can say is that whatever I write comes about the same way as any of my creations. I would liken my head to a pot with lots of stuff bubbling in it, and when something’s cooked, it floats to the top, I fish it out, and slap it on the table for people to look at. Seriously, that’s the best analogy I can come up with. So you could also think of my head as an oven. Or maybe a wok. Something kitcheny and to do with food preparation, anyway.
Thanks Troy! I’m getting a craving for slow cooked brain.
Remember, the Vegetable of Luck is now obliged to share the love and interview two more bubblers, so watch her journal with patient awe.

You’re a lucky vegetable and your head is a wok? Does that make your brain stir-fried?
