I have been planning on producing a painting with this Booths `Real Old Willow’ china for sometime and the Queens Jubilee seemed the ideal time. I wanted to offset the predominantly blue and white china with bright red.
The Queen Anne shaped teapot is Booths `Real Old Willow’ pattern 9072 and dates from 1918 -1944. The teacup and saucer are Early Booths china dating from 1906-1918. There is more gold on the earlier china.
I used Winsor and Newton French Ultramarine, Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose and Aureolin. I wanted to stick to the traditional approach of using just three paints. However I needed a yellowy red for the flags so chose Cadmium Red. It was impossible to make the more bluey red for the strawberry jam with this red by adding a touch of the blue I needed. Adding French Ultramarine to the Cadmium made a browny red. I choose Ultramarine for the blue flags. I needed to make the china slightly more purply blue so needed the Permanent Rose for this aswell.
