People first descended to the Grand Canyon bottom by mule in 1904. Today visitors will book more than two years in advance for an opportunity to get saddled up and make the trek into the canyon on the backs of nimble-footed mules.

Route 66 runs through the heart of downtown Williams, Arizona which is a jumping off point to the Grand Canyon. After the highway was commissioned in 1926, for the first time there was one continuous road from Chicago to the west coast.

With more Americans owning automobiles, there were now hordes of new tourists on the famous highway, all eager to see attractions along the way such the Grand Canyon.

Fantastic capture! I’ve always wanted to do this trip, but so far I’ve only flown over the Grand Canyon.

Wow, what a shot! The lighting is gorgeous and brings out the color of the rocks really well. I also like seeing some action in the scene rather than the usual pure landscape image. Well done, Patricia!
