On July 12, 2009 this image was featured in The Heartland group.

Image taken at a little known Tennessee museum, the Cowan Railroad Museum.

The town of Cowan was created in the 1850’s because of the railroad. It flourished for the next 100 years, rich in Civil War and rail history. With the decline of the railways in the 1950’s the train station was not used for decades. Then the citizens of Cowan decided to create a musuem in the abandoned station.

According to the Cowan Railroad Musem’s official web site there is memorabilia of all kinds such as railway history books, model trains, CTC control panels, vintage switch stands, line-side signs, antique maps and furniture, vintage photographs, and tools used to work on the railroad. There is also an old locomotive , flatcar, and caboose that you can climb on, as well as 1950s Fairmont Motor Cars.

If you are ever in southwestern Tennessee, this is a stop you don’t want to miss!

I think I went through here many years ago when I was traveling from Nasheville to Florida and staying off interstates. It was the back way to Mount Eagle. Of course I was not into cameras then.

Good point of view, Patricia. We have an old train museum here that I love to visit. It’s been a long time, though. I need to go again. My Dad was a train lover. Good shot.
