Artist's Description

  1. In November 2008 this image was featured in the group, Montanta – The Treasure State.

Image of Lake Koocanusa in northwest Montana was taken several years ago with a manual-focus SLR (film) Canon AE-1 and scanned from a print.

This lake was created by the construction of Libby Dam which flooded the entire Kootenai valley. The lake extends 90 miles upstream with about half of those miles in the U.S. and the other half in British Columbia, Canada.

While Libby Dam was under construction, a contest was held to name the lake. A woman from Eureka, Montana won the contest by taking the first three letters from the words Kootenai and Canada and adding USA to create the name Koocanusa.
