The neon marquee for the Moonlite Theatre located in Abingdon, Virginia. The Moonlite is a 454-car capacity drive-in that opened in 1948. Still in operation in the summer months, it is the oldest continuously-open drive-in theatre in the state of Virginia.

Check this Drive-In Theatre List to see if there is an operating drive-in near you.

Land is to valuable here in California. All the ones I knew about in the bay area have closed or become a place to have a flea-market.

That’s just great that it’s still in operation. I can remember taking the kids to the drive-in. We would pop popcorn and take cokes and candy with us. The kids would be in their pajamas because they would usually go to sleep and we would finally get some peace. lol. Love this piece, Patricia. Besides bringing back those great memories, it’s an excellent photograph. Love the clouds!!

I’ve been told that this theater has just gotten a grant to restore it to it’s original state. I’ve been going here since I was a little girl! I love it, Patricia!
