King of the Alpine Tundra
- In February 2009, this image placed in the top ten of the U.S. Parks Wildlife Shots challenge hosted by the AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat group.
Location: Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
This big boy was grazing on the alpine tundra at almost 12,000 ft. elevation near the Tundra Communities trail. We stopped our hike and sat down on a rock to wait until he wandered into zoom lens range.

One year for vacation, we met my son and his wife at Rocky Mountain National Park. We had a great time and a fun horse ride. It is such a beautiful park. This shot is a great representation of the park and wildlife there. I love how he is standing against all that blue sky. He looks so regal. The grassy knoll, with the higher mountains in the background and the wonderful clouds all contribute to the magestic feel of this wonderful place.
