A team: horse and knight during the joust tournament.
The tournaments kept the knight and horses in excellent condition for the role they would need to play during medieval warfare.
The horses are trained for ambling, a kind of pace that provided the rider with stability in order to be able to focus and aim better with the lance.
During a jousting tournament, the horses are cared for by their grooms in their respective tents. They wear caparisons, a type of ornamental cloth featuring the owner’s heraldic signs.
Shot taken during the Medieval Encampment of Campen (Kampen the Netherlands) featuring: Ridders te Paard.
