The demolition area is decorated to create hope of a better future. All credits to the artist which made the series of photographs of children from the neighborhood, the art works are on the walls of the houses that are going to be demolished in time.

The girl laughed at me every time I was on my way to the local shops.
I don’t live there anymore, the excavators, dozers and crushers are now approaching this part of the neighborhood….soon the girl will not be there anymore.
The dutch word “straks” means later…see you later girl in a better place…I hope for you!

First attempt in selective colouring.

I realy like selective coloring, and this came our really great. It would be interesting to see another variation with the poster’s background turned into black & white as well. Only the girl to be colored.
Demolitions.. I do not like them. I know, they are for the better, but I always feel that part of my memories are taken away…

  • Thank you so very much Mary, I never did SC before…and never felt for it to do it myself. But sometimes you have to try out things you’re not attracted to to see and feel. I choose this photograph of me because it’s also a sort of symbolic idea…black and white for vanishing buildings and colour for hope for the future…

Great capture, Patjila, and such a sad tale – these houses look well looked after and loved, such a shame to demolish them !!

  • Mattie you are so right…the new housing that will be there are ten times more expensive and partly not for social renting…… thank you Mattie for your fine compliment.
