Skipper & Sailmaker’s portrait Hans van Wijk, skipper & traditional sailmaker at work. Had a great chat and was allowed to make some photographs, thank you Hans. Learned another way of “canvassing” and the use of a Sail palm!
The Sailmaker’s Palm by Denim Muse:
The shoreline rolls in canvas gray nibbled by the sea.
Foam fingers tease, tempting pipers with salted morsels.
Their footprints sealing sand to surf, too soon their stitching pulled undone by jealous tides begging for attention.
Gifts of shell and tumbled glass swirl at my feet. Charms set free from watered chains.
Gathering the sail of salt and sea into folds around my hands, the sailmaker’s palm and awl held ready for the misted cloth from Neptune’s loom.
The threads now lost beyond my reach, snatched back by a green-eyed seamstress.
