Castle Rock Wilderness is located north of Ajo, Arizona. When I went there, and began to drive into the wilderness, I was stopped by some folks riding ATVs. They warned me that the road further along was strictly 4 wheel drive. I had never met a 4 wheel drive road that I couldn’t drive, so I went back there anyway. Turns out the road was far worse; it could only be traveled with ATVs. Eventually, I got to a place where there was no way I could continue. I tried to turn around and got stuck. Just as I was trying to call AAA, I saw a handful of people on ATVs and I tried to call to them, but they disappeared. Not long after, a much larger group of ATV riders arrived, and they talked me out of the tight spot. Fortunately, they were following me, because later on, in a place I had already traveled across successfully, I got stuck again. My back wheels were off the ground, and there was no way I was going to make it without help. They helped me again. The worst result was that I lost my muffler, but I got some rather spectacular pictures. The further into the area you go, the prettier it gets.
If you go back there and find a muffler, it’s mine and I want it back. :)
