White Silkie rooster and hen at the Children’s farm. Went with Mia ( Edge-of-Dream) RB member and we had an enjoyable time.

Chinese Silkies are believed to have originated in Asia, although despite the name, it is unclear whether it was in China, Japan or India. Amongst his many other exploits, Marco Polo is believed to have introduced this bird to the western world sometime between 1254 and 1324.
The Silkies unusual feathering is due to the lack of the barbs which would normally hold the webs of the feather together, thus producing long masses of soft ‘silvery threads’. As a result of this, the silkie cannot fly & therefore is easily contained.Their feathers appear to look like hair, they also have black skin, bones, five toes and feathers on their feet, mulberry colored walnut shaped combs, light turquoise almost iridescent looking earlobes all combine to make Silkies one of the most unusual breeds of poultry.

very nice, big and small. What a couple, fluffy.I know the silkie well, the background is detailed like wild grass and dry.well done,Pat.

  • Thanks Davvi for your wonderful comment. I used a straw texture but I have forgotten to clean up a few brown spots on the chooks. I don’t understand why the hen is so small compared to the handsome rooster : )
