Wisdom

Tony Ryan

Wisdom

The model in this pic is very emotionally sensitive. I come across many in my photo shoots who have this sensitivity. However most have been conditioned to rely on their looks as their sole gift. Therefor many do not think of themselves as overly intelligent.

I believe that sensitive people have access to incredible wisdom if they open their minds to their hearts. Further I see wisdom as true intelligence as it is intuited rather than learnt. This particular shot to me portrays the depth of feeling and wisom that this women has access to.

I am really passionate about running workshops pertaining to images such as these. I have set up a group to promote and feature these workshops.

there ia such a subtel strength here that transcends her beauty…. madybe it is the look of clarity and intent of purpose in her eyes…but i have to agree with you tony…. i get the feelng from this piece of ‘art’ that the subject is incredibly wise… and in being so is content and very strong…... she is agelss and holds her own destiny…............... very very uplifting…...... thank you…........b

  • Tony Ryan replied

Thanks Butch. I find your words really inspiring on this piece.Penny, the model in the pic, is a very powerful essence and when she relaxes her look and energy are so empowering to be around. I also relate to the ageless feeling. Her eyes seem to convey a timeless destiny.

This woman looks strong, determined, unshaken. You have acknowledged her wisdom.

The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
    Proverbs 14:1

There are many wise women in this world. Their input should not be minimized. A woman of beauty is often treated only based upon beauty. Some beautiful women play off thier beauty. I guess that is what the scripture is saying.

This is a great piece. You have captured both her beauty and confidence well.

    Nicely done.

I have found often that the best picture of people are of those who do not aware that they are being taken, because they are more natural and showing their trueselves, otherwise, as you say rely on their looks as their sole gift, or try to force a smile. This model has a very natural appearance, as she looks in the distance in deep thought.

  • Tony Ryan replied

I thoroughly agree Mui-Ling. So many of us seem to put up protective walls to others when out of our comfort zones. This seems to happen alot in photography where people are often dependant on the result. I take alot of care to help people get into the moment when having their photos taken.

I once heard it said that wisdom is the application of knowledge. I have always liked that and striven for it. The light in this is gorgeous, and the way her hair has blown across her brow is wonderful. It lends the feeling that she is not conscious of physical appearance, but is focused on something else.

Interesting that she’s not looking at the camera.. makes it harder to see the depth, which is entirely the sort of thing emotionally sensitive people tend to do.. and probably why so many people get the wrong impression of them.

  • Tony Ryan replied

Thanks Astrid. Sometimes wonder with some of my pics though. Seems to be that some sort of intuitive power just sweeps in and takes care of the creative.

Beautiful capture, Tony. The lighting is a little hot for my own preference for color work, as the skintones get a bit blasted out on the highlights. The capture though is fantastic. I love the motion in the shot given by her hair. I think you could not have captured that look of deep inner thought of the model if you shot 100 rolls of film (Ooops, there I go dating myself again!).

Be sure to tell your beautiful model, that sensitivity is a gift, as it is a product of ones ability to be able to feel what is in their heart. That’s what makes all of us crazy, creative people so good at what we do, that very ability to feel ourselves, and then relay those feelings through our art. Once again you show your skill as a pro, being able to have the model relaxed and confident enough to have that naturalness of her being shine through. Bravisimo!

  • Tony Ryan replied

Think I may have lifted the contrast a little too much on this one. Don’t use photoshop too often and not too well either. I so agree with you about sensitivity. I have been working for a few years in finding links between mental health and creative essence. Deep sensitivity is such a gift but also so hard to handle. However the gift is so great that I believe any effort involved in harnessing the full potential of a creative heart is well worth it.

If you had written what you wrote next to the picture in a journal I would have favorited it too. (I don’t know if that is an actual sentence but it made sense to me lol)

your work is fantastic and I have a friend who is trying to work on her NUDE shots. I’m not there (and might never be) but I am first and always will be an artist. I also studies people and psychology in college and so I look at people and pictures in a totally different way and I have told her sometimes it is more than just taking a picture of a person or a body. It is not just clicking because everything can be just write but if the person getting their picture taken doesn’t have something (a spark) or have that ability to convey something back then you have nothing.

Your models are all excellent here. There is something about them.

You have the touch to capture them at their best and it shows.

You are by fair a fantastic photographer and I can see why they wanted to work with you. ~ I can’t wait to see if she has found you. :) ~ micki

(side note about the “Hotness”) it works as it gives it a 70’s feel. You could put it into b&w and make it high key but for me this tone works. It is how I make HIGH KEY on purpose. :)

  • Tony Ryan replied

    Hi Micki,

Great to receive your response to this shot. I so agree with you about the importance of essence. Here in Australia I am running workshops that pretty much prioritise this aspect of photography. Even a back shot of a person perfectly positioned can lack impact if the model is not in the moment with their essence.

Interesting re the saturations and contrasts of this pic. I am submitting it in an art exhibition soon and have over saturated the colour and it seems to work just as well.

    Best Wishes Tony.

Hi Tony, well hello to the entire group,

I am touched by your discourt and your philosophy of life. I very much appreciate this picture because it seems to have forgotten the purpose of the photographer.
I do not know whether I am worthy of your request. I have several handicaps. I do not speak English, I go through a translator, and I do not always have the time to put myself in conversation, but I’m very interested to share with my sensitivity to other people who have the same passion and same sensitivity.
I just get on redbubble. I will try to put a series of works on the site to submit them to trade in your group.

Greetings of a modest French artist. André
