Intensity

Intensity

The saying eyes are the window to the soul is very popular. I do believe that the eyes are perhaps the easiest indication of how a person is truly feeling. Also how deeply sensitive a person may be.

Anja, the model in this pic possesses eyes that can project feeling at such intense levels. At times when she has been free and relaxed just looking at her eyes brings me close to tears. In this photo I am not exactly sure what the mood is.

This image so stimulates me to wonder about humans. I look at these eyes and wonder who we all are. Are we eternal beings or are we just robots like perhaps in the Matrix movie. I believe we are eternal but that many of us shut off our feeling and our hearts. It is then that our eyes lose intensity and instead hide us from our world.

I am really passionate about running workshops pertaining to images such as these. I have set up a group to promote and feature these workshops.

    Thanks Guys,

I still find that this shot creates wonder in me. The more I see it the more I feel it is the little girl looking out from the adults body.

You have described powerful emotions that we dream of recreating with images. Your collection of images is one of the most emotive I have seen on Redbubble.

  • Tony Ryan replied

Hi Shane, not sure why I have not replied to your comment earlier. I am very flattered by your comments about the emotive nature of my work. I so respect emotion and believe that embracing this aspect of humanity at depth is essential for true fulfillment.

    nevertheless..intense it is!!

    Hi Birgitta,

This face shot was taken during a body series where the model was made up in dirt. Perhaps looked more effective in the body shots.

This is just beautiful !!! I love the intensity and underlying power and strength that shes expresssing

  • Tony Ryan replied

Thanks Christina. It is a funny one as it is not one of Anja’s most aesthetically beautiful shots but it reaches me so deeply and connects me to her more than many of the others. She does have such a powerful and strong essence but like many of us who are sensitive finds it hard at times to reach this place.

Beautiful, eyes are truly a window to your soul.

  • Tony Ryan replied

    Thanks Joanne,

I am facinated by eyes but through my life have many times found it hard to look people calmly in the eye. This still baffles me as I do try to be as honest as possible so am not sure why I get this feeling.

i keep coming back to this one… and i’ve decided i like the dirt on her face…. life has left a history there…. it makes her all that more beautiful…. and real

  • Tony Ryan replied

    Thanks Butch,

The dirt was certainly a big decision as Anja wasn’t keen on it. Afterwards she admitted that she felt a release and lift emotionally.

I like the dirt, its a great effect. And her eyes are so amazingly intense. Very attractive. I also believe that the eyes are the window to the soul. I don’t know about you Tony, but sometimes I feel like not looking people in the eyes because they make me feel uncomfortable, and I simply don’t want to connect with them, because I sense something wrong or evil about them. There is nothing wrong with shielding yourself from unwelcome intrusions. I think looking people straight in the eyes has been built up to be something that people feel compelled to do, or otherwise people will not think they are being honest. It doesn’t work for me at all like this, in fact, sometimes in order to clear my mind and be precise and honest, I need to close my eyes, concentrate, and then speak to the person or persons I am conversing with. I don’t feel there is anything wrong with this. Body language is very interesting, and how people perceive certain things. I think it is a myth that you should have to look anyone straight in the eyes, especially if you don’t want to, and it has nothing to do with being honest or dishonest. We also have a choice about who we choose to let in, as we should have a choice. Being made to feel that we have to look someone straight in the eyes is actually a form of control, a guilt trip, to make a person feel that they have to let someone in. Sorry I didn’t mean to go on…so please forgive me. I guess it is just that I have had to deal with a lot of disrespect and very mean people in my life, and after a while you realize that you just don’t want to look at or connect with this person, because it is not good for you, it is a form of self protection. I think this is a gorgeous photograph, and I agree with you, her eyes are very innocent and you can see the child in her. Smiles from Jane.

Amazing piece of observation Jane. I have written so much about this of late. I have often found it hard to look some people in the yes or hug some people at certain times. Society does seem to pressure us to do both in certain circumstances. As much as I believe in honesty and openess this does not mean being fake with people. If we are not comfortable it is not helping to pretend we are.

However I believe that if another person really has the power to make us feel uncomfortable we would be best served to inwardly reflect at some point as to why. I believe we are all connected and that sometimes those most deeply connected to us are the ones who can stimulate us to feel the most uncomfortable. I am finding with me that the more I search my fears and confusing emotions that the more at ease I am feeling being around people.

I think in general that the windows to the soul aspect is very related to how I have had trouble looking certain people in the eye. I believe that I am perhaps seeing into some of their deepest confusions and that this perhaps is touching on my own. However in the comfort of my own mind I do devote much passion into understanding these feelings.

  • Brynn

    Brynn

Its funny people say they see wonder in her eyes, what I saw upon first glance, was wariness. Like she is watching someone a ways off, that she is unsure of. Perhaps what we see in anothers eyes, is what we see out of our own. Beautiful doesnt sum it up, great job Tony,

  • Tony Ryan replied

Hi Brynn, Anja is such a deep feeling person. At times she can be guarded and wary. At other times she can be the most beautiful energy to be around. Like many of us she is really trying to find her true self. The thing I like about the shot is that she is open in her energy rather than protective. In a catch 22 sort of way she is wary but not hiding the fact from the viewer.

Now this is the type of photo of a woman I love… when you see the inner beauty on the outside, although I love the human form, by far the story of a person in a photo is far more enticing … fantastic pic.

Those eyes are amazing! They have a vibrant intensity that exude a youthful excitement yet she seems very composed with a hopeful longing. I get a real positive feeling from this photo. The gritty face also give it a child-like feeling. I know my kids cant eat a vegemite sandwich or play in the backyard without getting a grubby face!

  • Tony Ryan replied

Thanks so much for sharing your feelings about this image. This woman in my opinion has so much depth and is a very complex energy. When I am in her precence I find that she stirs up so much passion and thought within me.

Amazing shot! You captured a great moment in time. I see wonder in that portrait, as if she was just getting out of a dark place and finally found hope!

  • Tony Ryan replied

    Hi Nathalie,

I actually believe that Anja did experience this feeling throughout the shoot. I think we all tend to experience these windows of opportunity from time to time. Some of us hold these moments and keep growing stronger. Others slip back and then need more of them to really break the cycle of unconscious struggle.

    Best Wishes Tony.

Tony, you’re right about her eyes, they are intense and quite revealing. Your work is once again thought provoking, which is good. Maybe I should give my blue eyes a good, hard look in a mirror and see if I can finally figure myself out.

There is a sense of depth to the eyes that reflects a curious passion. And yes Tony you are understand that we are all mirror images of each emotion left unexpressed. To know another is to know the self.

  • Tony Ryan replied

Anja really is a facinating person. Very deep passion but one that is very hard to feel composed around. I try in journal writing to understand all those who touch me deeply and find that the more I understand others that I do become more composed in knowing myself.

    Anja smiles not,
For she has no want to grin,
Her despairing life is void of hope,
With her rosy cheeks and dirty chin.

    Anja smiles not,
For she has no time to smile,
Her eyes though, tell of a story,
That joy may visit for a brief, short while,

Anja smiles not,For sadness is her way,
But she journeys forward with each small step,
And is allowed to survive for another day.

I write to her of places unseen,
And hope each word may set her free,
And give her the hope she so badly needs,
And live a life – by living it through me.

One day I hope for us to meet,
I’ll hug her tight and talk awhile,
But the reward for me can only be,
To give her that hug and to see Anja smile.
