Philadelphia Eastern State Penitentiary. Pennsylvania, USA.

While I was in USA, Evelina organised a day out at this awesome old prison. It’s was operational from 1829 til 1971 and then abandoned until 1994 when it was reopened in it’s original condition for historic tours. The prison is best known for holding Al Capone, who’s cell is still in it’s originally ornate state (image coming soon).

That Al Capone got around, didn’t he? Very forboding scene, Andrew!

  • That he did! Thanks Mel. There was a real sense of foreboding in this place.. you would have a field day in here :)

Striking building and what a great place to visit. Looking forward to the coming images of the inside. Did it still have that air of a prison about it?

  • Thanks so much, Karen! Yeah, it had a real sense of creepiness to it. The decrepit state of the place was really atmospheric and gave the whole place a really heavy sense of loss. Amazing place to visit!
