Artist's Description

The legend of the phoenix.

A mythical bird that lives for an eternity in cycles of 500 to 1000 years, ending every life cycle by igniting in flames and turning to ash, only to be reborn from the very ashes itself. It’s rebirth as a stronger and more powerful entity.

Stories of the phoenix have been told as far back as ancient Egyptian times.

This is a very personal piece. It’s one that I have needed to create for a long time. It’s also one that I didn’t know how to create, or even if I would be able to. I recently saw this piece by Rob Toombs and was inspired to complete my own version. Big thank you to Rob for giving me the artistic push, via this incredible piece of art!

Around a decade ago, I was put through an incredibly testing time. I had been permanently injured in a car crash, was dealing with a death from the same crash and having legal proceedings to deal with. This period of my life went on for seven years.

I was lost and unable to deal with anything I was experiencing. Over time I realised the only way to get through this was to face it, deal with it, burn with it and hopefully survive. So I did just that. I burned.. badly for a while, but in the aftermath, I saw that I survived. A stronger and more powerful person than I was before.

The phoenix is my connection to the new world I now live.
