I’m in a bit of a TTV mood this week. Must be feeling nostalgic with the year about to end…

A few days ago, someone asked “what did we do without mobile phones?”. This sparked a long discussion about what we did without all the technology of today. I think it’s funny that we used to just turn up to meet people at a certain place, and just wait till they arrived, late or not. Somehow it always worked, no one got left behind, and everyone always showed up!

What did we do before the digital age? We managed, whatever it was. I used to love creating my mix tapes of the radios nightly top 20, or taping video clips on a Saturday morning.

I do love how far we have come technologically, the progress we have made in the last 20 years is astounding. I’m in no way anti progression. It’s healthy and good, but it’s what we leave behind sometimes that I miss.

Long live the walkman! :)

Oh the self made mix tapes – I had a dual deck and did actually make mixes with a 3rd single tape deck :o) those were the days… lots of wires and stuff.

  • Haha, we had a habit of linking up so many appliances and machines to get what we needed. Wires! I loved wires :)

Nice one Andrew, I love the image on the left withthe lawn mower in the background, it’s awesome and would be great by itself I reckon.

i’ve still got my boombox from the 80’s! It’s a little bit the worse for wear but it still works – sort of. ;-)

  • Thanks so much mate! You know, this was going to originally be the record pic on it’s own, but I wanted the massacre to have a bit more to it. Ahh the boombox will always remain close to my heart. I managed to break our one few years ago, been on the look out ever since! :)

Love this andrew, wonderful retro tones and presentation – love the nostalgia and your description. How did we survive LOL – well with some awesome music and some necessary social skills – no texting or facebook, if a boy was keen they actually had to ring your home phone or turn up at your house and talk to you face to face lol :)) My hubbies not a fan of texting or messaging, he thinks you can’t get a tone and things can get misconstrued, its an easy out for not having to have a conversation. But there are advantages to modern technology – where would we all be without digital cameras and RB :))))))))

  • Haha I totally understand where your husband comes from with that! Everything has become so impersonal and robotic with communication. Love your comment about a boy having to go over to see a girl face to face, brings back a lot of memories!! Too funny. Technology moves so fast, I’m glad the digital age arrived too :)

I love this – it draws you in and evokes such feeling. I had to stare at it a while to understand what the right side was…lol – but that was good because it made me think. I recently went to my mom’s house and helped her clean her basement…and one of the things I came home with was an orange record player and a bunch of old albums. I miss the cover art on albums! I like some of the advantages of technology – but I also think people hide behind it and that face to face contact can be more rare from some……sometimes I want to say no to it all….but not often. LOL. Great image!

  • Hey Tania, thank you so much! I’m glad the right pic wasn’t too obvious, I was hoping for a bit of ambiguity in it. How great that would have been to find so many old vinyls and that player! I think I have those same moments with technology where we just want to go back and embrace the past again :)

This has such a retro, old feel to it, that I love. It came through in the car photographs and this one is equally as good.
    5 stars my friend!!

  • Thanks mate, can’t help myself with the TTV shots, I keep taking shots of things from my past, brings back so many memories just creating them.
