The view of Paris, capital of France. Taken from the very top of Sacre Coeur.

Earlier today I had a phone call from Dean, asking if I would edit one of my existing shots for him to give to his sister for Christmas. He chose Atop Sacre Coeur, original of which can be seen below.

After completing I thought I would add it to my folio. It has been a piece I have always thought about editing, but never actually got around to. I have never added a treated version of an existing piece to my folio, so this is all new to me!

Let me know what you think of the two versions :)

    difficulte to say….both are fine.
personally, I like the treated version more, the mood in it is great. Makes it a bit mystical and dark, I like such things.
A great view over Paris have you found!

(Sorry for my bad english, I give my very best ;-))

  • Oh thank you so much! I agree with you, the textured version brings more mood, I think I prefer it in some ways too. Mystical and dark are great adjectives to have associated with this piece. Your English is fantastic! Hope you have a great Christmas & 2010 Mirror! :)

Like Mirror, think the two versions are great…
Love the horizon and the quietness in the non-textured version… and the dramatic / old rendering effect of the textured one…

  • Very kind of you MM, thank you so much! That’s a great way to describe the unedited version, fantastic!! I love where you have put the two of them, excellent :)

Love it Andrew!!. The ‘grimey’ texture really adds alot of mood to the piece, wonderful composition and image, love what you’ve done here :))

  • Thanks so much mate, it kinda feels a bit more like me now! This was one of my first shots I put up, so it’s nice to revisit and alter it in some ways. Really pleased to hear your thoughts on this one, as always, reinforces my hopes for it :)

I like the great sense of history the layered image gives. To me so much more is added with the dingy textures! Fantastic image Andrew! Love it. I like the original too, but this work has so much more interest.

  • Hey Lou, thanks mate. Yes, you hit the nail on the head with this one. Definite sense of historical value to the texture. Thanks so much mate, hope you and the fam have an awesome Christmas and NYE too! :)

I love both images, they both invoke different feelings, the new treatment actually reminds me more of how I experienced Paris, it’s more gritty, more urban, more textured, and it reminds me of one of those bolted down binoclular things on a stand that you put money in to look though, the lens a touch grimy from the countless finger prints, maybe it’s the feathering, either way I can almost smell the sweet scent of crepes being cooked by street vendors, brilliant work my friend

  • Ah I should have known you would make a good connection with this one Jus! The binoculars!!! That is just awesome mate. Adds so much to the piece for me thinking about that. I just love your thought processes and comments, it brings my work to life mate!! Thank you so much :)

i have very fond memories of Paris, but my night atop Sacre Coeur was the best. great view of the city. as always, your process puts this image into the category of classic. simply beautiful.

  • James that is such a nice thing to say mate, thank you very much! I had a ‘wow’ moment when we got to the top and had my first glimpse of the view. I really think this is the best vantage point in the city. Am thrilled you can connect with it mate, thanks heaps! :)
