Another one of the works of Antoni Gaudi, one of the most eccentric architects of the 20th Century. It was developed and built from 1900 to 1914.

This building is part of Parc Guell, a concept park Gaudi set to work on for a colleague in Barcelona. The park ended up failing to attract the visitors it was intended to and was sold to aristocratic higher powers. It is one of a pair of buildings located at the parks entrance gates.

The rooftops are decorated in mosaic tiling, in a unique and interesting design, repeated throughout the entire park area. It instantly reminded me of the gingerbread house from Hansel & Gretel. Just makes you want to break off a piece and eat it!

This was the very first Gaudi site I visited in Barcelona, which I had waited to get to for many years. The man’s vision must have been so different from that of the world we live in today. He really was a master of his craft.

Desaturated, and texture added from free use stock.

I so love Gaudi!!! i so depserately want to see the sagrada familia being finished but don’t know if i’’l live long enough, it’supposed to be done when I am around 90 or 95!! I love the organic approach he is taking and so muc FUN! Well captured!

  • It’s always so great to meet another Gaudi fan! Being at Sagrada in person was such an unbelievable experience. Organic is the best way to describe his approach and ideas. The amount of detail and thought that has gone into what he created is unbelievable!!! I would love to be able to see it completed, but it’s taking them so long. Thanks so much for the great comment Daisy :)

Ahhh, I thought I recognised this (before I read side txt), great title and nice choice of composition.I have to admit I was reminded of a Brothers Grim like feel to this location when I visited. Or better still, have you seen “Jack the giant killer”, sure there’s a village in there with similar styles. You’ve definitely created a mood here, a sort of dark fairytale, even though the shot is full of vivid colours, well done. Look forward to more of your Gaudi shots.

  • How did I know you would be a fan of Gaudi’s work! Soon as I saw this place I thought of the Brothers Grim as well mate, it’s a strange fairy tale world that has been created here. Haven’t seen Jack the Giant Killer, but I’ll get onto watching that this weekend. Really glad you like this one H, my other Gaudi shots are already in the folio, further back, Dry Waves, Casa Battlo, Sanctus Revisited and La Sagrada Familia. Cheers mate!!

Hey Andrew, Let’s face it,, not everyone embraces the work of Gaudi,, somehow it resembles a large Bomb Alaska,,,,I say that with the greatest respect to the famous architect,,, your title is very fitting,, almost looks good enough to eat,,,,thank you for sharing this very unusual architectural piece ,, some of us may never get the chance to visit these interesting places,,, cheers

  • Gaudi fans are few and far between! I think he would appreciate the thought of it resembling a bomb alaska, from what I’ve read he was a light hearted man. I’m glad you appreciate his work, it’s so different to anything I’ve ever seen, ethereal in a fairy tale way :)
