Vampire Within

Please see RoyAllenHunt’s written piece: Are You Ok With This. His incredible song is a compliment to this piece.

See here for how I created this shot.

I really thought I would wait at least two weeks before I tried this again, but then I went hunting in the pantry and found more dye and well, curiosity and motivation got the better of me tonight!

Red and green dye this time around. Green was dropped in first, and allowed to swirl around a fair bit, then the red came in. It looked so much like blood coursing through someone, or something..

Backlit by my computer monitor, showing just a white page.

Looked like ribs to me !!! This i do like. Did you use just natural light ?

  • parmi replied

Yes! I’m so glad you said that mate, ribs were the first thing that came to my mind when I was this too. That’s where I started thinking about the human body, people, dead people, vampires.. it all flowed! It’s my computer monitor behind the glass, with just a white page open from word, found natural light didn’t give enough contrast and show off the colours enough. Glad you like mate :)

Brilliant ‘take’ on the traditional vampire – great work!

  • parmi replied

Thanks very much K, I’ve been wanting to incorporate something of vampire nature or folklore for a long time, but never had the right piece or mind frame. So glad this happened the way it did!

Fabulous title parmi and just love the combination of colours, they work so well together. Love the flow that these dye pieces have about them, great abstract pieces of art :))))

  • parmi replied

Thank you so much Trish! I tried after this round of dye to get something similar, but it never turned out the same again. Such an interesting experiment. I’m thrilled you like this, turning out to be one of my fav pieces! :)

this is just awesome and isn’t cool how out of something so simple emerges a WOW, well done

  • parmi replied

Thanks a lot mate! It was really interesting to watch the colours emerge and change. Really satisfying project, and I totally agree, very cool when something comes from a potential nothing! :)

  • Joanne Bradley

    Joanne Bradley 29 days ago

This is really cool! Love the colors and fluidity! I am not sure I am familiar with the technique used….

  • parmi replied 29 days ago

Thanks so much Joanne! This is red and green food dye, dropped into a water filled glass jar with an eye dropper, while the water is swirling slightly. I filled the dropper up with each colour, to get maximum colour coming through the shot. It’s a great experiment, each round of colour adding produced such different results. I couldn’t get this one to happen again, no matter what I did! :)

I wrote a song called Are You Okay With This? about a vampire’s tryst. This image immediately brought to mind what I envisioned when I wrote it.

  • parmi replied 27 days ago

That is one incredible piece of writing mate! Would you mind if I add a link to your song on my page? I think the pieces so brilliantly together.
