Spiritual Collapse

Round two of the Rainbow Drowning project.

See here for how I created this shot. (The stack of dvds were implemented after this shot was taken)

Was holding the camera portrait for these ones, to get a bit more depth and length in the shots. The dye squirted harder than expected, causing a fast and long rippling effect in the water.

Loved the contrast between light and dark in these ones and the background blur too.

Crop of original shot, with adjustment of brightness and contrast. No other enhancements to this series.

I’m glad the dye squirted that much where it gives more variety of blues in-which helps with the depth view, so excellent job!

Love this one Andrew! I can feel the movement and flow of this like coloured water modern dancing :) Brilliant title as well :) Fave! (and I still want to copy you….is that ok?!)

  • parmi replied

Thanks heaps Shelly! It’s really interesting to watch the movement in the water, when you actually pay attention, there’s so much going on in there. So glad you like it.. You HAVE to do this, I really want to see what happens for you with it :)

Beautiful image Andrew, like the bottom of a fine silk skirt on a twirling flamenco dancer, well that’s what I saw for some reason. Oh I just saw Shell said a similar thing maybe I’m not nuts after all (or we both are lol). The DOF is brilliant and gives such movement to this, I’m drawn in and out of the image as the swirls float past each other. I was going to ask if this was a food colouring in an aquarium type job but you’re probably explained it elsewhere. Great wokr my friend

  • parmi replied

Wow Jus, this is a comment worth framing mate! Thank you so much. It’s so interesting to hear what everyone sees with this shot. I can see the flamenco dancer in the image now, but not until you said so. I think we are all a bit crazy to see any image in something like this haha! This is actually my computer monitor with a blank word document open in the background for bright white effect, and the water and dye are in a glass candle burner, about 10 cm wide. Of course that was sitting on a pile of dvds lol! Thanks heaps for the thoughtful comment mate, that means a great deal :)

  • blueeyesjus

    blueeyesjus

You’re so welcome for the comment. I would never have thought about using my monitor as a light source, bloody good idea, I have a light box for looking at negs that I sometimes use but other than that it’s usually a desk lamp or two that provide the illumination. I’m really surprised that you got such great effects only using a 10cm wide ‘vase’, I have just the thing so now at least I don’t have to drain the aquarium lol. It’s a pity you don’t have a pic of the actual set-up, I don’t know whether this spoils the ‘magic’ but it would be really interesting to see how people like you and me improvise with out home made studios, maybe there’s even a group in it?

  • parmi replied

Haha, I could just imagine the hell draining the aquarium would involve mate! I should just set it up again and take a shot of it all for you. I’ll make a journal entry with how it all happened. That’s a really good idea mate, I always enjoy sharing the love, and maybe that would give others inspiration to try it as well. The idea of a group is awesome! Amateurs producing studio set up results, without the studios! Fantastic!! Stay tuned for the journal entry mate :)
