The Cathedral of the Good Shepard, San Sebastian, Spain

This neo gothic cathedral stands at the end of a decently busy street and is a darkly beautiful building. The architecture is so intricate and detailed all over the spires and roofline. It’s a photographical dream of a building.

It was built in 1880 and completed in 1897. Preservation of churches and cathedrals in Spain is of high importance, so it looks like it was built nothing more than 50 years ago!

Simple adjustment of lighting in this one, adding an omni to create a darker mood of needed deliverance and salvation.

    Beautifully composed shot mate and the omni was the perfect choice for accenting the sometimes ominous tones typical with gothic churches (I use omni way too much lol). The thing that struck me about the majority of Europe is they have a deeper respect (and pockets) for their architectural heritage and most importantly the expertise to restore their building stock, something that is sadly lacking in oz..oops didn’t know I had my conservation hat on, I’ll take it off….lol

    Thank you very much my friend! I’m freaking obsessed with the omni, I love what it does to a shot, instant atmosphere lol. You’re so right about Europe, the history is rich, and they do anything they can to preserve it and keep it alive in modern day. The sheer age of some of the buildings and structures over there is astonishing, given the way they have been preserved or restored. Hopefully as we become older as a nation we will start to develop that need as well! I like your conversation hat mate, never take it off!! :)
