Halcyon Days

This is the Glenelg pier, Adelaide. I spent at least 10 mins waiting for people coming and going to clear out so I could get a shot of the pier alone. As you can see, this didn’t happen. Turns out, I prefer the activity in this one!

Added a texture from www.deviantart.com stock and blanched out the colour form both texture and photo. Added an omni filter for lighting effect and slight adjustment of contrast.

  • Aileen David

    Aileen David

this is great… the omni filter, creating the pinhole effect right at the point where the horizon and the perspective of the bridge meet plus the use of the title gives this piece a concrete concept (at least that’s what I see). The activity on the bridge also furthers the idea; as if they’re hurrying to seek shelter from the coming storm.
I like the allusion to mythology; I used one recently as well…hmmm, maybe we can come up with a series?

  • parmi replied

Wow, it’s an analysis like this that makes it all worthwhile! That is awesome Aileen, thanks so much. Of course, the storm, the sea, the lighting.. it all connects. I just hadn’t made the connections to why I processed this way. Being shown this through your eyes is fantastic. Making a series is a fantastic idea, I’m up for the challenge! What was your piece?

  • reflector

Hi Parmi! mine’s Judgement of Paris.
I’m glad you liked my feedback…sometimes I think I go overboard ;) I guess the art director side of me just can’t be contained sometimes.

  • parmi replied

Just had a look.. love Judgement of Paris! There is nothing I appreciate more than in depth and thought out comments on my work. As much as I love all comments, the ones that dig deepest are my favourite. Anyone who puts that time into it, I totally respect :)

    bye for now, h

  • parmi replied

Lol! Yes, I really didn’t want people in this one either.. especially given that Gotham is such a people free zone at the best of times hehe.. Funny how this one turned out actually, the never seen residents have finally made the cut! Thanks mate, love hearing your thoughts as always!! :)

I see you love the textures, too! I’m afraid I’m getting addicted! This is nicely done—I like the color you’ve preserved through the texture.

  • parmi replied 28 days ago

Thanks heaps mate! This one almost guided me!! I think this is the point where we stand and announce our addiction to textures to a supportive group? lol..

  • Tracy Edgar

    Tracy Edgar 16 days ago

i like that you feature people in the shot. they add something. altho’, without would also have been good. nice vintage treatment. like your texture choice :)

  • parmi replied 16 days ago

I think this was the shot that allowed me to take more with people included. I used to think they took away from a shot, but proved myself wrong with this one! Thanks so much for the great feedback!
