Bad Transmission
This is the final photo Dean chose (below) as his promo shot. I love the shot, my only issue with it was that it’s slightly blurred. I was able to sharpen it marginally, but it cannot be enlarged without losing overall quality. I also didn’t appreciate the light flare running across Deans shoulders and chest. This isn’t a problem for Dean, the light added a grungier feel to the shot and he is using the pic small so it will appear roughly same size as below on his site.
Meanwhile, I have been busy trying to work out how to use this photo to create something different. I was in no way satisfied with a slightly blurred image, and it was not coming to the redbubble party looking as is!
I don’t think there is a need to choose between the two, I just wanted to show you the original and the edited versions, to give the project more depth.
So I added noise, a linear transmission filter and utilised a materialiser from KPT.
This is the end product. Consider it the sequel to Hostage Plea, another chapter of underground illegal electronic communication. The possibilities for a story here are many: held for ransom, bargain plea, secret communication. You guys can decide.

they are both such differnet shots – it’s hard to choose which I prefer – I can see why Dean chose hte one he did – it has a soft ethereal feel to it and the light around his shoulders is like a portal into the mystery … the top one gives him youth and movement and for some reason he looks more vulnerable (don’t ask me why – just a feeling I think) the top image also has a stronger focus on Dean, but his choice gives him more context ... as I said, I can’t decide – so, Both are v good!!!
parmi replied
Thanks a lot Helen! I was hoping to give 2 completely different moods and choices here. I agree with the top one giving vulnerability, it made me feel like a prisoner of war on video from a dark place. I love Dean’s choice of pic, I think it represents him really well, and as a small shot it’s perfect. Thanks for the awesome comment Helen, I really appreciate the analysis of both works :)

Bad transmission, is an excellent title.
It’s exactly what it looks like. The picture distortion works really well here…..I hope Dean like this one…..it’s really funky…..looks like a bill board or a UTube image…. congratulations to you both.
parmi replied
Despite the fact that I have distorted the guys head, hes still likes it! His exact words were ‘it’s pretty crazy’ :) Dean will use the smaller original version for his profile, while i went to town on it for my own use! Thanks Maria, support is always so encouraging!
